LAURYN HILL GETS THREE MONTHS FOR FAILING TO PAY TAXES
Grammy-winning singer Lauryn Hill was sentenced Monday to three months in prison and an additional three months in home confinement for failing to pay taxes on about $1 million in earnings. During a forceful statement to the judge Monday, Hill explained she had always meant to eventually pay the taxes but was unable to during a period of time when she dropped out of the music business, echoing a defense she wrote last year in a long post online. "I needed to be able to earn so I could pay my taxes, without compromising the health and welfare of my children, and I was being denied that," Hill said Monday, without explaining what exactly triggered her actions. Before the sentencing, her attorney had said Hill had paid more than $970,000 to satisfy the state and federal tax liabilities. Hill had faced a maximum sentence of one year each on three counts. Her attorney had sought probation. It's not clear when or where she'd report to prison.

Joe Francis convicted of assault and false imprisonment
"Girls Gone Wild" creator Joe Francis was found guilty on five counts of assorted charges including assault, false imprisonment and "dissuading a witness from reporting" in Los Angeles on Monday. The charges arrived after a two-week trial in which Francis, 40, was accused of misleading a group of female friends to believe they were getting a ride to their car in his limo from a club in Hollywood one night in 2011. Instead, the limo went to Francis' home, where he allegedly tried to pull one woman away from her friends, causing a physical altercation in which he is said to have grabbed another woman's throat and hair and bashed her head into the floor multiple times. The women called police immediately, despite allegedly being warned by Francis not to report the incident. "I have done NOTHING wrong! This is a total joke! It did not happen and that mentally challenged jury should be put in jail!" Francis said in a statement. The soft-core porn entrepreneur, who has previously been convicted of charges including tax evasion, slander and bribery, faces up to five years in prison.

Patrick Schwarzenegger, 19, kicked out of club for threatening to beat up DJ

Arnold Schwarzenegger's son Patrick let his temper get the best of him on Saturday, after he was booted from Hollywood's Sayers Club following an apparent argument with the club's DJ. "I'm gonna beat the f--- out of the DJ," the angry USC freshman said repeatedly to his pals. "He kicks everybody out of his table, losing money for the club, losing money for the owner." Schwarzenegger initially went unrecognized when he and his friends entered the club and sat at a table, but things got a bit heated after Schwarzenegger accidentally bumped into resident DJ Anthony Valadez's equipment several times. "[Valadez] told him nicely a few times to please be careful because he kept bumping into it." "I guess Patrick became annoyed so he started throwing ice at him. At this point one of the cocktail waitresses noticed it was Patrick Schwarzenegger and alerted the team who he was and that he was underage."

CNN ANCHOR REPORTS BEING ROBBED OF HER IPHONE
Atlanta police are investigating after a CNN anchor reported that her iPhone was snatched from her hand as she strolled down a street in the city's midtown section.  Carol Costello was talking on the phone while walking around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday when two teenagers ran up from behind and grabbed the phone. Costello said in a post on her Facebook page that she struggled with one suspect as she tried to keep her phone, but he pulled out a chunk of her hair and she let go.

Tom Cruise signs on for 'Mission: Impossible 5'
This message will self-destruct in five seconds: Nearly two decades after kicking off the blockbuster Mission: Impossible series in 1996, Tom Cruise has signed on to star in a fifth installment in the espionage franchise. Cruise’s last outing in the role of IMF agent Ethan Hunt, 2011′s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, took in nearly $700 million at the box office worldwide, making it Cruise’s highest-grossing film ever.  writer-director Christopher McQuarrie, who teamed with Cruise on last year’s action thriller Jack Reacher, is the top candidate to helm the film, but neither a director nor any other casting or plot details have yet been officially unveiled.

Nick Cannon addresses Mariah Carey-Nicki Minaj feud: My wife didn't sign up for 'Love & Hip Hop'
Nick Cannon said the feud between "American Idol" divas Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj is being perpetuated by the show's producers, during a live interview on Los Angeles' KTLA-TV Morning Show. "My wife has been taking the high road," Carey's husband told KTLA-TV anchors. "But it feels like even the producers and everybody else want to play into the sound bites." The animosity between Carey and Minaj on the FOX reality competition made headlines even before Season 12 premiered, after an explosive video of the two women arguing was leaked on the Internet. And now with just three contestants left, both judges have yet to put their differences aside. Last Wednesday, Carey verbally jabbed Minaj over her lack of No. 1 singles, which led Minaj to call Carey "insecure" and "bitter" on Twitter the following day. Although it takes two to tango, Cannon argues his wife "didn't sign up for that." "She's like, 'Aw, man. I wish that experience could be about what the show is really supposed to be about,'" Cannon said. "She really loves these contestants and has a connection with her fellow singers." The KTLA anchors agreed that the spat between the two judges is "a distraction" from the competing talent and even called the producers' focus on it "so dumb." Apparently, Carey had the same concerns. "What's amazing is my wife foreseen all of this," Cannon said. "She tried to tell the network, 'I don't think this is going to work. I'm afraid.'" "'I love the show, but you're kinda taking it in the wrong direction. This is going to turn into one of those reality shows,'" Cannon continued to paraphrase. "She's like, 'I didn't sign up to be on 'Love & Hip Hop.'"  So will Carey sign up for another season of "American Idol" after having such a bad experience with her fellow judge?  "I think if they get it stable she might re-look at it," Cannon said. "But nobody wants to be a part of anything that's unstable."

Shania Twain Announces Fall Show Dates In Vegas
CaptionAfter nearly a decade-long hiatus marred by burnout, a painful divorce and physical problems that affected her ability to sing, country superstar Shania Twain said she’s finding her groove as a Las Vegas headliner. Twain announced 22 new show dates this fall for “Shania: Still the One,” a spectacle at a 4,300-seat Caesars Palace concert hall that includes two trained horses, a live band, and the 47-year-old Canadian beauty clad in sparkling bodysuits and thigh-high boots. She’s also staging a run of 12 shows starting May 14. Though she said she was initially nervous about how the comeback residency would be received, it’s sold out for each of its first 24 performances. Free from the rigors of tour travel, the residency is “a dream performance scenario” that allows her to balance her roles as a mother and as a country superstar. “Vegas is just a really good setup,” she said. “It completely leaves me room to be the parent I want to be.” She said she’s written enough songs to fill an album, but isn’t ready to return to the studio just yet.

NeNe Leakes Highest Paid Housewife
NeNe Leakes is the highest paid star in Bravo's "Real Housewives" franchise. The larger-than-life Southerner, who is the only remaining original cast member on "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," will pull in a cool $1 million plus bonuses when the show returns for a sixth season later this year, OK Magazine reports. That amount does not include the money Leakes makes as a co-star on the NBC sitcom, "The New Normal" and a guest star on FOX's "Glee." By comparison, Kandi Burruss will net $450,000, and Cynthia Bailey and Phaedra Parks will each earn $300,000. "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" has been on the air since 2008 and is Bravo's highest rated series overall.

TV NEWS
CBS and Criminal Minds producer ABC Studios on Friday tendered their final offers to longtime cast members Thomas Gibson, Joe Mantegna, Shemar Moore, Kirsten Vangsness and A.J. Cook — and thus far only Gibson and Mantegna are close to signing on for Season 9. Moore is said to be still deep in talks (though the two sides remain far apart on the financials), while Vangsness and Cook reportedly rejected outright the latest offer, casting doubt on the futures of BAU agents Penelope Garcia and J.J. Jareau. All cast negotiations reportedly need to wrap up by end of day Tuesday, to pave the way for an official (and thus far delayed) Season 9 renewal announcement.
