Grandson of Malcolm X killed in Mexico: US officials
Malcolm Shabazz, grandson of political activist Malcolm X, died while traveling in Mexico, U.S. officials confirmed Friday. He was 28. Two U.S. officials said Shabazz was killed Thursday morning in Mexico City. They did not provide additional details and they spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the case. Shabazz family publicist Terrie Williams confirmed the death to The Associated Press and said the family would issue a statement later.NLabor activist Miguel Suarez said he was with Shabazz when his friend was beaten up during a dispute over a bill at a Mexico City bar. Suarez, who was recently deported from the United States to Mexico, told the AP that they and several other people had gone to a bar near the downtown plaza that is home to Mexico City's mariachis. He said Friday the owner demanded they pay a $1,200 bill and a fight ensued. Suarez says he later found Shabazz injured outside the bar and took him to a hospital where he died on Thursday. In June 1997, Malcolm Shabazz, then 12, set a fire at his grandmother Betty Shabazz's home. She died from severe burns, and he served four years in juvenile detention. He later expressed regret for his actions, telling The New York Times in 2003 that he would sit on his jail cot and ask for a sign of forgiveness from his dead grandmother. "I just wanted her to know I was sorry and I wanted to know she accepted my apology, that I didn't mean it," he said. "But I would get no response, and I really wanted that response." Shabazz also served time on a 2002 attempted robbery conviction, and was released in 2005. In 2006, he pleaded guilty to criminal mischief for smashing the window of a Yonkers doughnut shop. In recent years, Shabazz said he was writing a memoir and traveling the United States to speak out against youth violence. On his Facebook profile, he said he was attending John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. He proudly embraced his grandfather's legacy, describing himself on his Twitter page as "Grandson, name-sake and first male heir of the greatest revolutionary leader of the 20th century.

Barbara Walters To Announce Her Retirement Monday
Barbara  Walters is retiring. The veteran ABC News anchor is set to announce Monday morning on “The View” that she will retire from TV journalism next summer. ABC said in an announcement late Sunday that, until then, Walters will continue to anchor and report for the network, anchor specials throughout the year, and appear on “The View.” She will remain executive producer of “The View,” the weekday talk show she created in 1997. The 83-year-old Walters has spent 37 years at ABC News, joining the network in 1976 to become the first female co-anchor on an evening news program. Three years later, she became a co-host of ABC’s “20/20” newsmagazine. Before coming to ABC, she spent 15 years at NBC News, where she was a co-host of the “Today” show. “I am very happy with my decision,” Walters said, “and look forward to a wonderful and special year ahead. “I do not want to appear on another program or climb another mountain,” she added. “I want instead to sit on a sunny field and admire the very gifted women — and, OK, some men, too — who will be taking my place.”
Savannah Guthie Engaged, But Won't Marry on Today Show There's good news off-camera on the Today show. Co-host Savannah Guthrie is engaged to marry her boyfriend of four years, Michael Feldman, who proposed over this Mother's Day weekend, the morning personality, 41, announced on the show Monday. "Good for you and congratulations to Mr. Feldman," said her anchor mate Matt Lauer. "He's a great guy." Guthrie, who was married (and divorced) once before, from 2005 to 2009 to BBC News presenter Mark Orchard, said she wouldn't let her wedding be broadcast on the show.

TERRENCE HOWARD DIVORCE FINALIZED AFTER TWO-YEAR BATTLE
Michelle Ghent submitted legal papers to end the union in February, 2011, days after the couple celebrated their first wedding anniversary. They have been embroiled in a nasty court battle ever since, but they are now single again after a judge finalized divorce proceedings earlier this week. Howard has been ordered to pay $5,800 a month in spousal support for the next three years, but has kept his properties. Ghent was allowed to keep a BMW gifted to her by the "Red Tails" star.

DAMON DASH FACING EVICTION OVER $100,000 RENT DEBT
Beleaguered rap mogul Damon Dash is facing eviction from his New York home after falling $100,000 behind on his rent, a court has heard. Dash was ordered to pay $240,000 to apparel exec Tom Nastos by a Manhattan Supreme Court judge on Thursday, plus an additional $90,000 in interest after allegedly failing to return a 2006 loan. During the hearing, the music executive, who once co-owned Roc-A-Fella Records and the Rocawear clothing line with Jay-Z, revealed he had fallen into such a dire financial situation he was close to being evicted from his rented home in Carmel, N.Y., due a massive rental debt. In his filing for the court, he wrote, "I am currently several months behind in paying my personal bills. For instance, I am currently over $100,000 behind in rent for the only home in which I live and at risk of being evicted." Dash's documents also revealed he owes more than $2 million in taxes to New York state and hands over $24,000 to his ex-wife, fashion designer Rachel Roy, every three months in child support for their two children.

'Iron Man 3' leads with $72.5 million; 'The Great Gatsby' shines in second
"The Great Gatsby” pulled off a dazzling $51 million debut, but couldn't catch "Iron Man 3" its second weekend in U.S. theaters. Disney’s Marvel sequel rolled up another $72.5 million this weekend, and is approaching $1 billion at the worldwide box office. Last weekend, it posted the second-biggest U.S. office debut ever. The critics were split on "Gatsby" and first-night audiences seemed to be, too. It received a so-so "B" from CinemaScore, whose grades typically skew high. But there's no denying the aggressive marketing campaign -- highlighting the film's stars, Jay-Z produced hip-hop soundtrack and Luhrmann's splashy directing style -- connected. "Gatsby" is easily Luhrmann's biggest opening ever, way ahead of the $14.8 million debut of his last movie "Australia," and nearly matched the entire domestic haul of his previous biggest earner, 2001's "Moulin Rouge!" The director, who also wrote the screenplay, was just part of the movie's audience appeal, according to Dan Fellman, president of distribution at Warner Bros. "Leo drove it and Jay-Z's music was big factor, too," he told The Wrap, "and it doesn't hurt to have a director with his own star power."  The weekend's only other wide opener, the low-budget PG-13 "Tyler Perry Presents: Peeples," took in a disappointing $4.8 million for Lionsgate. Perry's films have on average opened to more than $20 million, but he's only produced on this project. Tina Gordon Chisum, a screenwriter on "Drumline," made her directing debut on the film, which stars Craig Robinson, Kerry Washington and David Alan Grier.
The top 5 this weekend:
"Iron Man 3," $72.4 million
"The Great Gatsby," $51.1 million
"Pain & Gain," $5 million
"Tyler Perry Presents: Peeples," $4.8 million
"42," $4.6 million
Shenae Grimes Marries Josh Beech Spring is in the air – and so is love for Shenae Grimes. The 90210 starlet, 23, wed British model, Josh Beech, she revealed on Twitter Friday. "I now pronounce us Mr. and Mrs. Beech! Ahhh!" she writes, adding a wedding photo of the couple kissing. Grimes, whose CW drama will not return for another season, got engaged in December, and thanked fans for all the "warm wishes" about her exciting news.

Slayer's Jeff Hanneman died of alcohol-related liver scarring
Slayer rocker Jeff Hanneman's official cause of death has been listed as alcohol-related liver scarring. The guitarist passed away in a Los Angeles hospital on May 2 at age 49, and now it has emerged he succumbed to alcohol-related cirrhosis, or an irreversible scarring of the liver. In a post on Slayer's official website, Hanneman's devastated bandmates admit they were unaware of "the true extent" of his liver problems until their pal was facing death. The statement reads, "We've just learned that the official cause of Jeff's death was alcohol related cirrhosis. While he had his health struggles over the years, including the recent Necrotizing fasciitis infection that devastated his well-being [after a spider bite in 2011], Jeff and those close to him were not aware of the true extent of his liver condition until the last days of his life." The band goes on to refute rumors Hanneman was set to undergo an operation to help relieve his condition, and insist he was optimistic about making new music. Slayer add, "Contrary to some reports, Jeff was not on a transplant list at the time of his passing, or at any time prior to that. In fact, by all accounts, it appeared that he had been improving -- he was excited and looking forward to working on a new record."

Lady Gaga performs for first time since hip surgery
Lady Gaga returned to the stage on Thursday for the first time since undergoing hip surgery after making an unannounced appearance at a New York bar. The singer has been in recovery since receiving treatment on Feb. 20 to fix a hip injury which prompted her to cancel the remaining dates on her Born This Way Ball world tour, and she was recently spotted back on her feet, in high heels, after spending weeks in a wheelchair. However, she decided to step back into the spotlight by joining her pal, jazz musician Brian Newman, during his regular performance at the Gramercy Park Hotel's Rose Bar on Thursday, and sang George Gershwin's anthem "Someone to Watch Over Me" to the surprised crowd. After the show, Newman took to his Twitter.com page and wrote, "Thanks to the 1&only @ladygaga for coming out to @GPHhotel tonight." Gaga is no stranger to Newman's gigs - she has previously performed with her friend at the Oak Room bar at the city's Plaza Hotel.

Sam Poueu's Cheating Led to Stephanie Anderson's Divorce Filing
Accustomed to surprises from her time on The Biggest Loser, Stephanie Anderson recently received a completely unwelcome one from her husband of one year, fellow show alum Sam Poueu. As the couple prepared for the birth of their first child, a boy due in July, "Stephanie felt they weren't connecting and decided they should go to counseling," a source close to the situation says. "It was getting dire."  Finally the truth came out, and it stunned Anderson.  "In one of the counseling sessions, Sam thought he would make it better by confessing," continues the source. "He [admitted] that he had cheated on her with multiple women throughout the course of their courtship and marriage. He told her everything." Shocked by the news, "Stephanie decided to split" from Poueu just two months before their son is due, says the source.  When approached about the infidelity allegations, Poueu, 28, didn't deny the claims. He said in a statement, "The circumstances and specifics of our marriage and our separation are extremely difficult and private." Now Anderson, 33, and Poueu are left trying to pick up the pieces of their broken marriage amid preparing for the arrival of their baby boy this summer. "Our focus is on Stephanie's continued health through her pregnancy and the delivery of our son," Poueu says. "We are excited to be blessed as his parents and are focusing all of our energy and attention on doing what is best for his future. He is the most important person right now to both of us."

Seth Meyers To Replace Jimmy Fallon As Host Of Late Night In 2014

It’s official – Seth Meyers will replace Jimmy Fallon as the host of NBC’s “Late Night” when Fallon moves to “The Tonight Show” in 2014, the network announced on Sunday. Lorne Michaels will executive produce “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and Michael Shoemaker will remain with the franchise as producer. “We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation. His years at ‘SNL’s’ ‘Weekend Update’ desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the ‘Late Night’ franchise,” Bob Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment, said in a statement on Sunday. “On behalf of Steve Burke, Ted Harbert and Paul Telegdy, we couldn’t be happier that Seth and Jimmy Fallon will be continuing their careers at NBC after growing up in this network’s late night legacy.” Meyers is currently in his twelfth season as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live,” his eighth season as the show’s head writer, and his seventh as “Weekend Update” anchor.

"Beverly Hills Cop," one of the 2013 pilot season's surest bets, failed to find itself a spot on CBS' fall line-up, with the network passing on the follow-up to the Eddie Murphy film franchise. Though the Tiffany network passed on the drama,  Sony Pictures Television and Paramount are said to be shopping the project to other networks. The update, starring Brandon T. Jackson as the son of Axel Foley (Murphy) not only came with the built-in brand recognition, but one TV's top producers attached as well ("The Shield"s Shawn Ryan). Murphy and franchise co-star Judge Reinhold appeared in the pilot, with Murphy said to recur if the project went to series. Christina Lahti, David Denman ("The Office"), Kevin Pollack and Sheila Vand ("Argo") rounded out the regular cast.
