Did Victoria's Secret fire Miranda Kerr before she could quit over toxic chemicals?

Supermodel Miranda Kerr was dropped as a Victoria's Secret Angel because customers don't like her and she's a pain in the butt. That's what beauty industry insiders told said, but it's not exactly the truth.  The lingerie brand may not have renewed Kerr's $1 million contract -- a fact they have neither confirmed nor denied -- but they still plan to use her to hawk their padded bras. That is, if she's willing to wear their toxic wares. The news of the brand's split with Kerr is not exactly a surprise. Reports surfaced in late 2012 that Miranda planned to quit the brand once her contract was up because its fabrics were found to contain toxic materials. The wife of Orlando Bloom and mom to two-year-old Flynn Bloom, fronts her own organic skincare brand, Kora Organics. And as global ambassador for Earth Hour, she's a well-known advocate of all things natural. The news that Victoria's Secret fabrics contain dangerous amounts of possibly carcinogenic pthalates reportedly did not sit well with Kerr. Miranda was not dumped because of her behavior. "It's purely contractual," says the source. "She'll be coming back for the show but it's unclear if she'll be in future campaigns. But she is definitely one of the most popular models and in high demand." The truth is this was probably a smart business decision for both Miranda and Victoria's Secret. The brand saves face by not having one of the world's most successful supermodels jump ship over toxic chemicals in their clothing, but still gets to use her star power for their fashion show, while saving the contract cash. Kerr can do gigs for the brand here and there -- like walk in the wildly popular and highly-rated fashion show, while wearing a diamond-encrusted million-dollar bra -- but isn't under contract as the face of a company whose product is adverse to her organic philosophy.

TV NEWS
West Virginia senator Joe Manchin III finally got his wish… though he surely didn’t want it to come true this way. MTV officially announced today that it has canceled Buckwild, a reality show about southern teens that was initially touted as the new Jersey Shore. Given Buckwild star Shain Gandee’s sudden death on April 1, the news isn’t entirely shocking: “We felt it was not appropriate to continue without him. Instead, we are working on a meaningful way to pay tribute to his memory on our air and privately,” the network said in a statement. MTV also revealed that it will air a special called Buckwild: WV to the NYC this Sunday, April 14, following an entire day of programming dedicated to Gandee.

Get ready for more adventures of your favorite ghost/vampire/werewolf trio. Syfy has renewed Being Human for a fourth season. The announcement is particularly welcome news for fans of the supernatural drama who were left with some tantalizing cliffhangers when Being Human‘s third season aired its finale earlier this week. The show is based on the British series of the same name, which recently aired its series finale on BBC Three.

Here’s one veteran NBC talk-show host whose job is apparently safe: Carson Daly will return for a 13th season hosting Last Call.

Yvonne Strahovski is officially returning to Dexter for the show’s eighth season. The actress is set to reprise her role in a multi-episode arc this summer as Hannah McKay, the gorgeous killer florist. Last season, Hannah became Dexter’s twisted love interest and a major thorn in his side. When we last saw her in the seventh season finale, Hannah had escaped from prison, and Dex was seemingly lucky to get away from her. “We both knew it would come to this, one of us dead or behind bars,” Dexter said. With Hannah returning, we suspect this time one of them (or both?) won’t escape so easily.

After what feels like an eternity of buzz, Marc Cherry's "Devious Maids" will finally premiere this summer. Inspired by the telenovela "Ellas son la Alegría del Hogar," Lifetime's new 13-episode upstairs-downstairs series follows the (mis)adventures of five Beverly Hills maids and their employers. The new dramedy stars Susan Lucci and, as with Cherry's breakout "Desperate Housewives," it all starts with a mysterious death. "Devious Maids" will finally debut Sunday, June 23

And for History’s next miniseries trick…The network is developing a multi-hour project on the life of Harry Houdini with Adrien Brody attached to star. The deal just closed and details are scarce. History is developing a miniseries project (working title: Houdini) that traces the arc of the turn-of-the-20th-century master magician’s life from desperate poverty to worldwide fame.
