Viola Davis Adopts Daughter Genesis

Viola Davis has become a mom — and her friend Octavia Spencer can hardly contain her excitement. During a speech honoring Davis at an ELLE Women in Hollywood event sponsored by Calvin Klein and L’Oreal Paris in Los Angeles Monday, Spencer spilled the beans that her costar in The Help became a mom “like, two days ago.” In her own speech, Davis, 46, confirmed the new addition, a baby named Genesis. The newborn is a girl whom the actress “brought home a few days ago,” Davis’s rep says. Davis and her husband, actor Julian Tennon, announced in August that they were planning to adopt. This is the first child together for the couple. Tennon has two teenage children from a previous relationship.

Nia Long‘s wish is finally come true.
After a doctor’s visit left her with little hope of having children with boyfriend Ime Udoka, the actress turned to her faith for answers. “I honestly asked God for this,” Long, 40, says in EBONY‘s November issue. “I remember I was driving home from the doctor, and I called Ime, and I was like, ‘Babe, I’m really kind of sad right now … the doctor actually said if I wanted to have more children, it would be hard.’” Despite the unsettling news, however, Long — already mom to son Massai, 11 — and Udoka, a professional basketball player, remained hopeful about expanding their family. “The next time [Ime] came to visit, he said, ‘I don’t believe that.’ I said, ‘You don’t?’ He said, ‘No.’ And I said, ‘Good, me neither,’” she recalls. “Then I got pregnant.” Due with her second child this fall, Long feels women should make the ultimate decision on when — or if — to have children. “The medical [profession] tries to tell every woman, ‘Have your babies before 40 because you shouldn’t have children after 40,’” she says. “Society tells us, ‘Get married before 30, because no man wants a woman after 30.’” But according to the expectant mother, the best things in life are worth waiting for. “You are not half the woman you’re gonna be until you turn 30. You’re not even half of that woman yet,” Long explains. “So I think if we’d just take our time as women, and do what comes natural to us and for us, we would make fewer mistakes.”
Mad Men welcomed a very special guest this week — January Jones‘s new baby boy! The proud mom, 33, brought her 4-week-old son, Xander Dane, to the set of her AMC drama. Xander, born Sept. 13, is Jones’s first child. Mad Men recently began filming its fifth season, due to premiere in 2012.

Martinez, who sits happily atop the leader board after Monday's '80s-night competition. "I got an amazing partner and we spend so much time at the studio because we have a great shot at [winning the mirror ball trophy]," Smirnoff, 33, said after the show Monday. "And we truly enjoy putting together these great routines." So the wedding will wait. "There's absolutely no time," she said of all the work she and Martinez, 28, are putting into their dancing. "I want to enjoy this and I want to enjoy the wedding and doing it together is just really hard." Plus, Penny, 33, who pitches for the Detroit Tigers, has just recently wrapped up his baseball season. "Once [Dancing] is over, we're going to concentrate on the rest of the life," Karina says of resuming wedding planning.
