Ex-Titans assistant Heimerdinger dies

Mike Heimerdinger, a veteran assistant coach in the NFL who directed high-powered offenses and developed quarterbacks such as Steve McNair, Jay Cutler and Vince Young, has died. He was 58. The Tennessee Titans confirmed Heimerdinger's death after talking with his family. He died Friday while in Mexico to receive experimental treatments for a rare form of cancer. He was offensive coordinator for the Titans when he was diagnosed with cancer in November 2010. ''Mike approached cancer with the same vigor and tenacity that he approached any football game — to win,'' Heimerdinger's wife, Kathie, said in a statement. ''Even in the final minutes he never gave up — that was our Dinger. He was a deeply devoted husband and father, loving son and brother, loyal friend and committed coach who loved the game and life.'' Heimerdinger leaves a daughter, Alicia, and a son, Brian.

Martha Stewart's Daughter Lashes Out at Domestic Diva in New Tell-All

In a scathing new tell-all book, Martha Stewart's daughter, Alexis, reveals that life as the homemaker's child was far from perfect.  "Martha does everything better! You can't win!" Alexis, 46, writes of her mother, 70, in her new book Whateverland: Learning to Live Here, out October 18 (as first excerpted by the U.K. Daily Mail). "If I didn't do something perfectly, I had to do it again. I grew up with a glue gun pointed at my head." Now a mother herself, Alexis angrily reflects in her book on Martha's lack of basic parenting skills.  "Martha was not interested in being kid-friendly," Alexis reveals in Whateverland. "She used to make me wrap my own presents. She would hand me things right before Christmas and say, 'Now wrap these but don't look inside.'" But Alexis says she took the most issue with the domestic diva's habits around the house. "My mother has a sign on all of her doors to take your shoes off," Alexis writes. "For god's sake! My mother's dogs p--s and s--t on her rugs and she's telling people to take their shoes off? Though Alexis drops these and other bombshells in the book, she insists she harbors no ill will. In fact, she even dedicated the tome to Martha. Says the TV personality of her daughter, Alexis: "She's her own person. She makes up her own mind."

Wade-Stern spat as NBA talks stall

Not even the presence of Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony could move the sides closer to an NBA labor agreement, the New York Post reported Saturday. In fact, it may have moved them further apart in the cordiality department. Wade shouted at commissioner David Stern during the lowlight of a tempestuous five-hour negotiation Friday that nearly ended the proceedings prematurely. The talks in New York produced no deal and could have created ill feelings stemming from the Wade incident. Stern holds grudges. Players Association executive director Billy Hunter Jr. said he does not expect an agreement by this weekend. A person debriefed on the meeting confirmed that Wade got ticked off when Stern, during his spiel, started pointing his finger at Wade. "Don't point your finger at me," the Heat superstar screamed at Stern. "I'm not a child." ESPN reported that Wade, James and Anthony threatened to leave the talks early before Hunter talked them into staying another hour.  "There are times when it's contentious," union president Derek Fisher said, without referring to a specific incident. "Guys are very passionate about their opinions. There are also times you really talk and show the type of professional respect. When you have as much at stake as we all do, you have to expect some ups and downs within the meetings." "I don't think it's going to get done this weekend, but the points were clearly articulated," Hunter said outside the Park Avenue hotel. "[Owners] understand from a players' perspective what our position is."
