After a source told the Associated Press that Beyoncé will take the stage at the halftime show during Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3 in New Orleans, the superstar officially confirmed the news herself with a post on her official website. Beyoncé made the announcement via a photograph in which the date Feb. 3, 2013, is written on her face in the style of a football player sporting eye black. At the top of the page, the announcement reads: "Countdown to Touchdown." Beyonce, whose pop and R&B hits include "Crazy in Love," ''Irreplaceable" and "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," has won 16 Grammy Awards. The 31-year-old sang the national anthem at the 2004 Super Bowl in her hometown of Houston when the New England Patriots defeated the Carolina Panthers.

Late reggae icon Peter Tosh receives Jamaica honor
Twenty-five years after his murder, Jamaica's government on Monday honored the contributions of firebrand reggae musician and songwriter Peter Tosh, one of the Caribbean island's musical giants. Tosh's daughter Niambe, an educator from Boston, Massachusetts, received the posthumous "order of merit" - the country's third highest honor - on behalf of her late father during an annual national awards ceremony on the lawns of King's House, the residence of Jamaica's governor general. Tosh was a founding member of the Wailers, forming the three-man core of the group with Bob Marley and Bunny "Wailer" Livingston. Hard-hitting solo albums like "Equal Rights" and his work with the Wailers helped make homegrown reggae music known internationally. He was cut down at age 42 in 1987, murdered by robbers in his Jamaican home. The always outspoken, defiant Tosh was known for forcefully denouncing apartheid, government corruption and calling for the legalization of marijuana. Musical colleagues and fans say the lanky, baritone singer and guitarist was a mesmerizing performer with a charismatic, larger-than-life personality. But for his family, the Monday ceremony was a big deal. Andrew Tosh, a veteran reggae musician who was 20 when his father was killed, said the award will help keep his musical and cultural legacy alive. "I'm feeling really good that he's finally getting honored," said the younger Tosh. With the Wailers, Tosh co-wrote the black power anthem "Get Up, Stand Up" and penned songs like "400 Years," a scathing song about slavery. After he left the group in 1973, just as the Wailers' album "Catch a Fire" was winning reggae a global audience, Tosh formed his own band - Word, Sound and Power - and wrote more songs filled with political content. "Mama Africa" denounced apartheid in South Africa; "Legalize It" called for the legalization of marijuana. Receiving lesser government awards on Monday were reggae luminaries Toots Hibbert, Lee "Scratch Perry, and Tosh's former Wailers bandmate Bunny Livingston.
maynard-holm.jpg The rumors are true: Emily Maynard is once again a bachelorette. She and fiancé Jef Holm, whom she met on the latest season of ABC’s The Bachelorette, have broken off their engagement. Maynard and Holm each released statements about the split. Here’s what Maynard had to say: I am sorry to tell you that Jef and I have, indeed, parted ways. It was a very difficult and heartbreaking decision. We tried our best because the love between us was so real. I have nothing but respect and love for Jef and his family, but ultimately we are just at different points in our lives.  I’ve learned so much and I’m grateful for all of the support I’ve received. I’m excited and hopeful for the next chapter in my life with my daughter, Ricki. I do hope that you will respect our privacy and allow us the time we need to heal. And here’s Holm’s statement:  Meeting Emily on The Bachelorette was an incredible experience, we’ve had quite the journey. I’ve never loved someone so much in my whole life, Emily is the best person and mom I have ever met. She opened up her world to me and I fell in love with her, [her daughter] Ricki, her family and the Hendricks. Emily will always have a special place in my heart. I don’t regret a single second I spent with her or Ricki. They both have been a huge part of my life. Who knows what tomorrow will bring but we are moving on to the next chapter of our lives. I will always love her. In happier news, ABC announced yesterday that season 7 Bachelorette couple Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum have set a wedding date for this December. The wedding will be televised on ABC.

There was buzz that "The Young and the Restless" was working on casting a new African American leading man. The CBS soap has upped the ante by signing two hunks, instead. Models Redaric Williams and Lamon Archey are seriously good looking and due to hit the athletic club and the coffee house in November. The "The Young and the Restless" power shift that brought in executive producer Jill Farren Phelps and headwriter Josh Griffith led to a flurry of exits and recast, as well as buzz that the show was looking to beef up the African American presence in Genoa City. While Phelps said longtime star Kristoff St. John (Neil) was due for a hot love story, there were also rumors the show was casting a young hunk for the role of Tyler Douglas, who may or may not be Sarge's (Darnell Williams) nephew.

Jimmy Kimmel might just be David Letterman’s biggest fan. “I’d draw Dave’s face on every book cover. I was like a teenage girl in love with him,” Kimmel said speaking of his childhood admiration for the late-night host. Well, now that infatuation has finally come to fruition – Letterman has agreed to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Kimmel’s own late-night talk show will broadcast from the Brooklyn Academy of Music from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2, and Letterman – who turned down an invitation to be Kimmel’s first guest – will join Stephen Colbert, John Stewart, and others opposite Kimmel. Musical acts for the week’s Brooklyn run include Alicia Keys, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, and the Avett Brothers.

Fresh off his horrific Sons of Anarchy exit, Ryan Hurst has joined the cabler’s drama pilot King & Maxwell. Based on author David Baldacci’s popular Sean King and Michelle Maxwell book series, the project follows two secret service agents-turned-private eyes. Hurst — whose beloved Sons character, Opie, was offed in brutal fashion at the start of the FX drama’s current fifth season — will play a high-functioning autistic savant serving a prison term for murder. The felon, who has the ability to see patterns and numerical sequences, forms a bond with King (played by the previously cast Jon Tenney) and helps make a major breakthrough in the P.I. team’s case.

The CW has renewed America’s Next Top Model for its 20th cycle since debuting in 2003. And the show will feature male models for the first time.

The League‘s Jason Mantzoukas will guest-star in an upcoming episode of Modern Family as Haley’s new co-worker — and boyfriend.

Kate Gosselin was just fired from her blogging gig at CouponCabin.com. The mother of eight began a relationship with the money-saving website last November, but according to the CEO, Kate's contributions didn't jive with the site. "A series of recent events have made it clear to me that Kate Gosselin and her contributions do not align with the authenticity which we set out to build almost a decade ago," CEO Scott Kluth posted on his website Tuesday in an open letter. "And that Ms. Gosselin is simply not a good fit with the wonderful team and culture at CouponCabin."  Scott, who started the company more than nine years ago, continued, "It's with this that I am writing to inform you of our decision to discontinue Ms. Gosselin's feature blog on CouponCabin.com. "Ms. Gosselin's contributions garnered both positive attention and criticism, but as always, I respect and appreciate your candid opinions, which often encourage us not to lose sight of our mission -- to help YOU save money."
