Sylvia Kristel, arguably the world's first true porn star, whose starring role in 1974 erotic French film Emmanuelle changed the face of adult cinema, has died of cancer. She was 60. The Dutch actress, a longtime smoker, had suffered a stroke in July. Emmanuelle, which told the story of a wayward wife of a French diplomat abroad, was one of the first erotic films to be shown in mainstream theaters, and was one of the biggest French box-office hits ever. Kristel herself said it changed the censorship laws of the era. Kristel starred in several Emmanuelle sequels, as well as some mainstream films, but she battled drug and alcohol addiction for years. She is survived by a son, Arthur, whom she had in 1975 with then-husband Hugo Claus, the Belgian author.

Flavor Flav was arrested early Wednesday morning in Las Vegas on suspicion of assaulting his fiancée and her underage son. A call was received around 3:30 a.m. from a woman who reported that her fiancé was threatening a 17-year-old teenager. She added that her partner had assaulted her as well. After arriving on the scene, officers were told that Flav, whose legal name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., had threatened the teenager with a knife. Flav was arrested and booked on two charges, felony assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor domestic violence (battery). Flav's fiancée, Liz Trujillo, claims the fight was over allegations that Flav had been cheating on her. "He's been cheating on me for months. I saw a text on his phone from a woman saying she 'had a great time' with him, and he was going to meet her in Vegas. [When I saw the text] I threw his phone and the screen cracked," Trujillo told the site, adding that the tossed phone caused him to wake up. "He woke up and called me a f---ing bitch. He was throwing me around, tossing me around. And I was bleeding and bruised all over. He pulled my earrings out. I'm damaged, I'm in complete pain, I can't move." Flav rose to fame as part of the rap group Public Enemy, but he is perhaps best known for his work on a string of reality TV shows, including "The Surreal Life," "Strange Love" and "Flavor of Love."

Lance Armstrong dropped by Nike and other sponsors
After Lance Armstrong stepped down as chairman of his Livestrong charity Wednesday (Oct. 17), Nike Inc. opted to end its contract with the athlete in the wake of doping allegations and evidence against the accomplished cyclist. Additionally, Anheuser-Busch, Easton-Bell Sports Inc., Trek Bicycles, FRS sports drinks and 24 Hour Fitness all followed suit and severed ties with Armstrong. "Due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Lance Armstrong participated in doping and misled Nike for more than a decade, it is with great sadness that we have terminated our contract with him," Nike says in a statement. Another of Armstrong's former sponsors, RadioShack, released a statement saying it has "no current obligations" with the cyclist. And Colorado energy foods company Honey Stinger says in a statement, "We are in the process of removing Lance Armstrong's image and endorsement from our product packaging." The fallout comes a week after the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) released evidence showing Armstrong used banned drugs and blood transfusions throughout his cycling career. In August, the agency had banned Armstrong from the sport for life and stripped him of his seven Tour de France titles after he declined to fight the charges against him.
