Jerry Sandusky gets 30 to 60 years for child sex abuse
Former Penn State University assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison Tuesday for abusing 10 boys he met over 15 years through his charity for troubled children. Sandusky — who was defensive coordinator and for many years the presumed heir-apparent to legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno — faced as long as 400 years for his convictions on 45 counts of child sexual abuse. But McKean County Common Pleas Court Judge John Cleland, who was brought in to hear the trial after all of Centre County's judges recused themselves, told Sandusky that at age 68, he would be in prison "for the rest of your life." "The crime is not only what you did to their bodies but to their psyches and their souls and the assault to the well-being of the larger community in which we all live," Cleland said. Sandusky's lead attorney, Joe Amendola, told reporters outside court that he would file an appeal within 10 days, saying he hadn't had enough time to prepare an adequate defense. Three of Sandusky's victims addressed the court, some of them speaking tearfully to Sandusky.

Beyonce Departs A Star is Born Remake
Beyonce Knowles has dropped out of Clint Eastwood's "A Star Is Born" remake at Warner Bros. Pictures. Knowles has been attached as the female lead on the project for well over a year, but the film has been floundering in its struggle to find a male lead. Beyonce's pregnancy has also pushed back the start date.Knowles' departure is due to scheduling conflicts. Without a set start date for 'Star', the scheduling has just become too complicated for the singer. Eastwood is reportedly interested in jazz musician Esperanza Spaulding as a possible replacement, however Eastwood is determined to lock in a male lead first before sending out offers for the female lead.

Hulk Hogan sex tape: Bubba the Love Sponge planned to profit from video
Hulk Hogan has filed a criminal report with Florida police after a video surfaced online of him having sex with Heather Clem, the ex-wife of his best friend, Bubba the Love Sponge, who gave Hulk permission to get busy with his then-wife. The police report filed by Hulk's attorney claims that whoever taped the sexual tryst committed a felony by recording Hulk without consent and whoever leaked the tape to Gawker, which has already received a cease-and-desist letter from Hulk for posting a minute-long clip of the video, is a law-breaker as well. But is the culprit right under Hulk's nose? Although he told Howard Stern on Tuesday (Oct. 9) that the person who filmed him "could have been anyone," the news broke to Hulk that Bubba was plotting to make money off the tape. At the end of the video after Hogan had left the room, Bubba tells Heather, "If we ever did want to retire, all we'd have to do is use this footage." Hulk says he had told his friend, "If you had anything to do with this, that means we were never friends." Once informed Hulk of the betrayal, he says, "I'm sick to my stomach right now."

'Sesame Street' wants Obama campaign to yank ad mentioning Big Bird
He's Big. He's a Bird. And he's now a political football.  The Obama campaign has put up a new web ad using Big Bird to attack Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney for threatening to kill funding for "Sesame Street" and PBS during last week's debate. Big. Yellow. A menace to our economy. Mitt Romney knows it's not Wall Street you have to worry about, it's Sesame Street," intones the narrator in the spot, which features a clip of the Muppet saying, "It's me, Big Bird." Big Bird's forced cameo didn't go over so well with the folks behind the legendary children's educational show. "Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns," read a statement from "Sesame Street" producers. "We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down." No word from the president's camp yet whether he will honor that request.

NBC Cuts Jay Leno Budget, Increases Spending For Football, Olympics Under Comcast

NBC slashes Jay Leno's "Tonight" pay in half, but forks out more than $8 billion to renew its broadcast rights to Sunday Night Football. Rumors swirl about a salary cut for Matt Lauer and Alec Baldwin tweets an offer to cut his salary, even as the network gambles on a $4.4 billion bid for the Olympics. Is this any way to run a network that's been stuck at No. 4 in the prime-time ratings for eight seasons? Yes, according to observers, who say NBC is making the right moves by saving where it can and spending where it should under new owner Comcast Corp. "I'm impressed they're both taking all these creative shots and exercising financial discipline," said Garth Ancier, a network veteran who helped launch Fox and was an entertainment chief at NBC. Stephen Burke, Comcast vice president and NBCUniversal CEO, "knows where to spend money and where not to," Ancier said. But steps including Leno's pay cut (to a still-enviable $15 million) and "Tonight" staff reductions raised eyebrows and this question: Is NBC returning to the chokehold on costs that was in place under previous CEO Jeff Zucker, when viewership spiraled downward? The ill-fated experiment of putting "Tonight" at 10 p.m. instead of more costly drama series was one example of Zucker's programming approach. Barclays Capital analyst Anthony DiClemente cautions against a "cynical" reading of NBC's position. Particularly in a TV universe fragmented by cable and satellite, "management is looking to be as efficient as possible when they look at program expenses," DiClemente said. In fact, NBC under Bob Greenblatt, the new entertainment chief who took over last year, the network has shown promising, if very early, signs of a ratings rebound.
