Susan Tyrrell, Fat City Oscar Nominee, Is Dead Susan Tyrrell, a Best Supporting Actress nominee in 1972 for director John Huston's Fat City, has died, her family confirmed. The actress died Sunday, and had been a resident of Austin, Texas, since 2008. In the John Huston boxing drama, which also starred Jeff Bridges and Stacy Keach, Tyrell, then 26, played Oma, a falling-down drunk. She later said that although Huston wanted to cast Faye Dunaway in the role, Tyrrell convinced the director to give her the job because a 26-year-old drunk would be more interesting than a 35-year-old one. Tyrrell had only a sporadic career, but she did make her mark as Carroll Baker's careless in-law in Andy Warhol's Bad (1977), as a cigar chomping lesbian in 1984's Angel and its sequel, Avenging Angel, the following year, and as Johnny Depp's grandmother Ramona Ricketts in John Waters's 1990 Cry-Baby. TV appearances included those on such shows as Baretta, Starsky and Hutch and Kojak. In 2000, Tyrrell contracted the rare blood disease essential thrombocytosis, which resulted in the loss of both legs. Nevertheless, she continued working, including in the 2003 movie Masked and Anonymous.

Author Erica Kennedy Dies
Erica Kennedy, an author and blogger best known for popular novels Feminista and Bling, has died. She resided in Miami Beach and was 42 years old at the time of her death, according to a family member. Additional details on the circumstances are not available yet. Her family released a statement saying: It is with great sadness that we announce that Erica Kennedy passed away in Miami Beach, Florida, last week. We are devastated by this incredible loss. Erica was bright, funny, talented, thoughtful and passionate. In her 42 years, she lived many lives as a fashion publicist, a journalist, a novelist, a blogger, a brand consultant, and a social media connector. But perhaps her most remarkable accomplishment was the indelible mark she has left on the lives of so many people across the globe. We love Erica and, like her countless friends and colleagues, we will miss her. However, we ask that you respect our family’s privacy during this very difficult time. A former fashion publicist, Kennedy started her writing career as a special correspondent for the New York Daily News. She went on to write about fashion and entertainment for magazines such as Vibe, In Style, Paper and Elle UK, according to her website. In 2004 she published a satire on the high stakes world of hip-hop with her debut novel, Bling, which went on to become a New York Times best-seller. Five years later she released her second novel, Feminista, a story about smart, modern women.

Woody Allen's Son Takes a Swipe at Dad
Woody Allen's estranged son, Ronan Farrow, took a swipe at his dad on Father's Day with a sarcastic message on Twitter referencing the moviemaker's famous scandal. Farrow is the son of director Allen and his ex-wife, Mia Farrow, but he has not spoken to his father since the 1990s when Allen embarked on a controversial relationship with Farrow's adopted daughter, Soon-Yi Previn. And on Sunday, Farrow showed the wounds of his family history are still raw with a sly dig at his father's past. Taking to his Twitter page, Farrow wrote, "Happy father's day - or as they call it in my family, happy brother-in-law's day." His mother later re-tweeted the message, adding, "Boom." Woody and Mia began dating in 1980 and together they adopted two children. Mia gave birth to their only biological child, Ronan, in 1987. Mia and her ex-husband, musician André Previn, had adopted Soon-Yi at 8 years old from Korea in 1978. Though Allen never legally adopted Soon-Yi, he came into her life when she was 10 and was considered a father figure. Allen infamously left his longtime partner and Ronan's mother, actress Mia Farrow, in 1992, for adoptive daughter Soon-Yi Previn. And even though Allen left Mia in 1992, the relationship with Soon-Yi began in 1991, when she was 21 and he was 56.

Footwear giant Adidas announced Monday evening it was pulling a new shoe design, after a storm of criticism about the sneakers, which feature what looks like shackles attached to them. A hurtful symbol of slavery or simply a quirky fashion statement? Adidas is rebuffing fierce criticism of one of its upcoming original sneaker designs. The JS Roundhouse Mid, a collaboration between Adidas Originals and edgy Jeremy Scott and due to be released in August, features a bright orange chain and ankle strap. While detractors likened the kicks to slave chains and prison shackles, Adidas said the JS Roundhouse Mids are not meant to be a symbol of oppression, and noted that Scott has previously designed creative kicks for Adidas featuring panda bear heads and Mickey Mouse. “The design of the JS Roundhouse Mid is nothing more than the designer Jeremy Scott’s outrageous and unique take on fashion and has nothing to do with slavery,” a representative for the shoemaker said. “Jeremy Scott is renowned as a designer whose style is quirky and lighthearted ...  Any suggestion that this is linked to slavery is untruthful.”
