Family Feud Host Richard Dawson Dies | Richard Dawson Richard Dawson, the English actor-turned-game show host who seldom shied away from giving his kiss of approval to female contestants on Family Feud, has died. He was 79. Dawson died Saturday night at Los Angeles's Ronald Reagan Memorial hospital due to complications related to his esophageal cancer, according to his son Gary. Gary also posted the information on his Facebook page, writing, "He was surrounded by his family. He was an amazing talent, a loving husband, a great dad, and a doting grandfather. He will be missed but always remembered." Born in Gosport, Hampshire, England, in 1932 (birth name: Colin Lionel Emm), his comedy career took off in 1965 when he was cast as pick-pocketing prisoner-of-war Corporal Peter Newkirk in Hogan's Heroes, a role he played until 1971. Five years later, his television career took a turn when he began playing host on kin-against-kin competition Family Feud, in which contestants, everyday folks, try to gauge the most popular answers to poll questions. His trademark? Dawson's ever-friendly approach to his female contestants resulted "somewhere in the vicinity of 20,000" kisses, executive producer Howard Felsher estimated when the show's initial run ended in 1985. Years before, he won a daytime Emmy Award in 1978 for best TV game show host. Aside from his entertainment career, which also included appearances on the '70s Match Game and in the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger film The Running Man, Dawson was a family man, who met wife Gretchen Johnson while she was a Feud contestant. The couple had one daughter together, Shannon, and he also had two sons, Mark and Gary, from his first marriage to actress Diana Dors. His death comes exactly 16 years to the day after Ray Combs, his Feud successor, died.Desperate Housewives Star Kathryn Joosten Dies Emmy winner Kathryn Joosten died of lung cancer Saturday. She was 72. The actress, best known for her role on Desperate Housewives as plucky neighbor Karen McCluskey and as The West Wing's secretary Mrs. Landingham, was surrounded by family and friends in Westlake Village, Calif., at the time of her death. "Kathryn passed away this morning after a valiant fight against her cancer," Nadine Jolson, Joosten's rep said. "Her family was with her. Funeral arrangements are pending. This is a terrible loss, and she fought as hard as she could." She is survived by her two sons, Jonathan (and his wife Jeremy and their son Jon Henry) and Timothy (and his wife Karissa and their son Evan James), who released this statement: "The family of Kathryn Joosten, two-time Emmy winner, long-time Governor of The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, lung cancer advocate, and so much more, regrets to announce that Kathryn succumbed to her 11-year battle with lung cancer today, June 2, 2012, surrounded by love and humor til the end. Thanks to everyone for their love and support. We are laughing through our tears. We love you, Kathy, thanks for everything."

Drew Barrymore Weds Will Kopelman

A beaming Drew Barrymore, 37, tied the knot Saturday with her fiancé of five months, art dealer Will Kopelman, at her Montecito, Calif., home. Designed by celebrity wedding planners Yifat Oren and and Stefanie Cove – who handled Reese Witherspoon's country chic nuptials last March – the intimate ceremony was "a classic, simple, very pretty, garden-inspired wedding," a source said. They were wed under a chuppah, and a rabbi officiated. Guests included Witherspoon and husband Jim Toth, Jimmy Fallon and wife Nancy Juvonen, Busy Philipps and her husband, and Cameron Diaz. The actress, who is pregnant with her first child, was spotted trying on wedding veils at a New York City bridal shop in May, donned a Chanel gown for her big day – not surprisingly, as her new husband's father, Arie Kopelman, is a former Chanel CEO.

Shawn Johnson Retires from Gymnastics

Shawn Johnson, one of the most popular gymnasts in recent memory, has announced her retirement from the sport. She was hoping to make the 2012 Olympic team. "I still have the heart, drive, and desire to compete and help the USA at the London Olympics," Johnson – who had been making a comeback from recurring knee problems – announced in a statement Sunday. "Unfortunately, it has become obvious that my left knee is not able to sustain the demands of gymnastics any longer," said the gymnast, 20, who won four Olympic and three World career medals. "All I can do now is gracefully retire and thank everyone who has believed in me and my journey." In addition to her gymnastics accolades, she also won her season of Dancing with the Stars in 2009. Johnson added that she made the announcement now "so the focus for the next three weeks will be on the incredibly talented gymnasts who are trying to make our 2012 Olympic Team." Bill Maher buys minority share of Mets

No joke: Bill Maher owns a stake in the New York Mets. The stand-up comic and political satirist was at Citi Field on Sunday and revealed that he bought a minority share of the team months ago. Mets senior vice president of marketing and communications David Newman confirmed the deal is done and that Maher is a new limited partner. ''That's what's great about baseball,'' Maher said. ''I finally found something I can be a-political about.'' Maher, who grew up nearby in New Jersey and said he has been a Mets fan his whole life, would not disclose how much he spent or how large a stake he owns. Hedge fund manager David Einhorn agreed in May 2011 to purchase a minority stake in the team for $200 million, but the Mets said Sept. 1 they were calling off that deal and instead wanted to sell limited partner shares for $20 million each. Maher said he read about the opportunity in the newspaper in December and thought it would be a great investment. ''Especially after I've seen some of the ways money can disappear in recent years. I had my money in Lehman Brothers in 2008, so this looked pretty good,'' Maher said, drawing laughs. ''I'm really happy that it's turned out that this team is good this year, because nobody picked them to be good.''  Maher said he has early memories of New York being granted a National League expansion franchise, and the team's first season in 1962. He said he vividly remembers the Miracle Mets championship of 1969, and watching Game 6 of the 1986 World Series at The Improv in Los Angeles with fellow comedian Jerry Seinfeld and others. Asked if he will try to persuade Seinfeld, a longtime Mets fan, to buy a share as well, Maher said: ''Why he didn't, I have no idea. He's sure got more money than I do.'' Maher hosts an HBO talk show called ''Real Time With Bill Maher.''
