Alex O'Loughlin Gets Treatment for Prescription Pain Medication

Alex O'Loughlin, who plays Steve McGarrett on CBS's reboot of Hawaii Five-0, is expected to miss filming for at least one episode while he undergoes treatment. The Australian-born actor, 35, is to "receive supervised treatment for prescription pain medication due to a recent shoulder injury," his rep says.  The popular police show has already shot 19 episodes for the season with production said to be ahead of schedule. "We respect and support Alex's decision," CBS TV Studios says in a statement. "Everyone at CBS Television Studios and Hawaii Five-0 wishes him well and we look forward to his return."


Oprah to interview Whitney Houston's daughter, family
Oprah Winfrey has landed an interview with Whitney Houston's daughter and other family members for a TV special that will air on the Oprah Winfrey Network. "Oprah's Next Chapter" will feature an interview with 18-year-old Bobbi Kristina, Houston's only child. It will also include Patricia Houston, who's the singer's sister-in-law and manager, as well as the singer's brother Gary. It is scheduled to air March 11. The superstar was found dead in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Feb. 11. An exact cause of death has yet to be determined.Winfrey was one of the guests invited to Houston's funeral in Newark, N.J., last month. Houston was 48 years old. Her daughter turns 19 Sunday.

Young Buck escapes from drive-by shooting unharmed
While the rapper (née David Darnell Brown) emerged unharmed from a hail of eleven bullets fired at his SUV early Saturday morning in Nashville, his lady passenger was hit in the shoulder, though she's since been released from the hospital after getting treatment. Young Buck is no stranger to scandal; the former G-Unit crew is under investigation for felony gun possession and was arrested after he allegedly got a little stabby at the 2004 Vibe awards.


'The Lorax' tops the weekend with a record-breaking $70.7 mil
Universal’s CG-animated film harvested $70.7 million this weekend, breaking a number of records in the process. First, it easily scored the best opening of the year so far, trouncing The Vow ($41.2 million). The Lorax had the strongest opening ever for a Dr. Seuss adaptation, topping How the Grinch Stole Christmas‘ $55.1 debut in 2000.

Seahawks sign Marshawn LynchThe Seattle Seahawks signed running back Marshawn Lynch to a four-year, $31 million contract one day before the NFL deadline to use the franchise tag. A league source confirms the deal includes $18 million in guaranteed money. He was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent March 13. “We are excited to keep Marshawn as an important part of what we are building,” general manager John Schneider said. “This is what we were hoping for when we acquired him from Buffalo.” Lynch was selected as a Pro Bowl alternate and rushed for 43 yards on eight carries during the NFL annual all-star game.

Gabrielle Union has landed the lead in the BET pilot Single Black Female. Single Black Female — from The Game producers Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil — chronicles the life of the host of a popular Atlanta-based talk show (Union).

Andre Holland (Friends With Benefits) has been cast as the White House Press Secretary in NBC’s comedy pilot 1600 Penn, starring Bill Pullman as Mr. President.


Looks like a promising beginning just might be what Happy Endings‘ Penny (Casey Wilson) gets in the comedy’s second season finale: Brian Austin Green has signed on to guest as her new flirt interest. The Beverly Hills, 90210 grad will play a charmer who finds himself attending the wedding of Penny’s gay best friend, Derrick (Stephen Guarino).


Zachary Quinto is getting an American Horror Story promotion. The Star Trek actor — who recurred in Season 1 as one of the ill-fated former owners of the Harmon house — will be upgraded to a lead role in Season 2.


Veteran actor Judd Hirsch (Numb3rs/Taxi) has joined CBS’ Melissa McCarthy-produced comedy, which centers on a single 37-year-old (played by the Mike & Molly star’s hubby Ben Falcone) who loses everything in the real estate collapse and ends up living with his parents. Hirsch will play the father of the downtrodden lead.



Karine Vanasse joins Mike Vogel as the second Pan Am star to book a pilot this development season. She’s set to play an aspiring fashion designer in the network’s drama project Scruples, which is based on the novel by Judith Krantz. Natalie Portman and Tony Krantz (24, Felicity) will executive-produce.
