Son of 'Barney' creator charged with attempted murder

It wasn't all "I love you, you love me" in Malibu, Calif. earlier this year, when Patrick Leach allegedly shot and seriously wounded his 49-year-old neighbor. According to Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore, Leach is the son of Sheryl Leach, who helped create long-running PBS children's program "Barney & Friends." The 27-year-old Leach has been charged with attempted murder for the shooting in which he not only shot his neighbor, but then fled the scene. Leach was also arraigned on assault charges, according to a rep for the Los Angeles County district attorney. The police say they have recovered evidence linking Leach to the shooting, but no motive is known at this time. The victim is expected to recover from his injuries, which were caused by a .45 handgun when he was shot in the chest. Leach is being held on a $1 million bond.

Postal Service to say goodbye to mail delivery on Saturdays

It's been debated for months and months, but on Wednesday the United States Postal Service finally will announce it's not going to deliver first-class mail on Saturdays anymore. The postal service's announcement, planned for about 10 a.m. EST, is expected to say that packages, mail-order medicine, and express mail will continue to be delivered on Saturday, but not letters, bills, cards, and catalogs. Post offices which are now open on Saturdays will continue to be open on Saturdays. The move is meant to save the financially struggling agency about $2 billion annually as it wrestles with the rising popularity of email and social media eating away at its core business of delivering mail, and with the climbing costs of providing health benefits to its workers. The agency reported an annual loss of a record $15.9 billion for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, triple the prior year's loss and capping a year in which it was forced to default on payments to a health benefit trust fund managed by the Treasury Department. The rising costs for future retiree health benefits accounted for $11.1 billion of the losses.

Joe Paterno's widow to appear on Katie Couric's talk show

Joe Paterno's widow is to give her first interview since the Jerry Sandusky scandal and her husband's subsequent death, appearing on Katie Couric's daytime talk show in an episode scheduled to air Monday. Sue Paterno, who was married to the legendary Penn State football coach for 50 years, is scheduled to talk with Couric in studio for the nationally syndicated show "Katie." The two have already gotten together at Paterno's home in State College, Pa. Joe Paterno was head coach of the Nittany Lions for almost as long as he was married, from 1966 into 2011. He led the team to two national titles and 409 victories, which was a major-college record until 111 of those wins were voided by the NCAA as part of the fallout from the Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal. Paterno was fired by the school in the days after the scandal broke in late 2011. He died from lung cancer in January 2012. His on-campus statue was removed last July, days after he and three other former school officials were accused by former FBI director Louis Freeh, who headed the school's investigation into the scandal, of covering up allegations against Sandusky. Many Penn State faithful, including members of Paterno's family, feel that the former coach's role in the scandal has been overblown.

A day after Longo was caught in Mexico using Finkel's name, the newspaper fired the journalist. Finkel was given a shot at redemption when Longo revealed that the only person he would talk to is Finkel. Jonah Hill will play Finkel and James Franco is portraying Longo. Kim Kardashian's Pregnancy Is No Reason to Speed Divorce, says Kris Humphries

Kim Kardashian's baby is not even born yet and already is being drawn into mama's divorce.Kardashian, carrying boyfriend Kanye West's child, has bristled at what she sees as stall tactics by estranged husband Kris Humphries to close the legal books on their 72-day marriage. But Humphries's lawyer Marshall W. Waller writes that "what is really going on here is that an 'urgency' in the form of an apparently unplanned pregnancy" is being used by Kardashian as "an opportunity to gain a litigation advantage (to) prematurely set this matter for trial." He adds parenthetically that the pregnancy is "something (Humphries) had nothing to do with." Waller explains his reasoning for calling the pregnancy as unplanned: "Indeed, why would (she) plan to get pregnant in the midst of divorce proceedings?" Kardashian, herself, recently addressed the timing. "God brings you things at a time when you least expect it," she said last month. "I'm such a planner and this was just meant to be. What am I going to? Wait years to get a divorce? I'd love one. It's a process."
