Barry Manilow Hospitalized For Hip Muscle Repair

Barry Manilow has been shaking his hips on stage for decades, and now he has to have those muscles repaired. A spokeswoman for Manilow says the 68-year-old entertainer was hospitalized Monday for surgery to remove fluid and repair torn muscles in his hips. Manilow waited until he performed his 1,000th Las Vegas concert and ended his seven-year run at two resorts there before having the surgery. Publicist Annie Jeeves says Manilow will be in recovery for six weeks before performing in Chicago on Feb. 2.


MC Hammer sued over back taxes

Rapper MC Hammer is facing legal action from U.S. authorities after failing to stay on top of his back taxes dating from 1996 and 1997.  The "U Can't Touch This" hitmaker, whose real name is Stanley Burrell, filed for bankruptcy in 1996 after finding himself in $13 million of debt. He has since overcome his money problems, but tax officials are refusing to let him off -- they have filed suit against Hammer and his wife, and are demanding all of his concert fees be sent directly to them to pay off the $779,585 he still owes,


‘Survivor’ Star Hatch Released From RI Prison
Reality television star Richard Hatch has been released from a Rhode Island prison after serving a nine-month sentence for failing to pay back taxes. A state prison official says the winner of the first season of the CBS reality show “Survivor” was released Monday. Hatch served six weeks at a state minimum-security facility as a transition after spending most of his sentence in federal prison. The Newport resident had spent more than three years in prison for not paying taxes on his $1 million “Survivor” winnings. He was released in 2009 and ordered to refile his 2000 and 2001 taxes and pay what he owed. The 50-year-old went back to prison in March for violating the terms of his supervised release by failing to settle his tax bill. Hatch had claimed he was “financially destitute.”
Lindsay Lohan on the cover of Playboy’s January/February 2012 issue Following the premature, unauthorized online release of Lindsay Lohan’s Playboy pictorial, the magazine has confirmed it will release the issue early. “Due to high demand, Playboy’s January/February 2012 double issue featuring Lindsay Lohan is now available on iPlayboy at www.playboy.com/lohan,” the magazine announced in a statement to Access Hollywood on Saturday. “Hard copies of the issue will be available on newsstands around Friday, December 16.” The decision comes after Lindsay’s pictorial spread was leaked online. More than just the cover, what appears to be the entire spread – 10 photos showing Lindsay mostly topless and her groin region obscured, and the feature article — hit the web on Friday. Hugh Hefner announced the issue would be released sooner than anticipated due to the leak.


Former 'CSI' Star Gary Dourdan Facing Foreclosure on Venice Home

Former CSI: Crime Scene Investigation star Gary Dourdan is facing foreclosure on his Venice, California home after missing a mortgage payment. The actor, who most recently appeared in the big screen comedy Jumping the Broom, did not pay the July installment of his loan and owes $61,558.90 as of Sept. 28. 2011 was a rough year for the actor who in addition to his bank troubles, was busted for drug possession in June and domestic violence earlier this month.

Newcomer Chadwick Boseman ("Justified," "Fringe") has signed on for the role of Jackie Robinson in Brian Helgeland's biopic of African-American baseballer at Legendary Pictures. Boseman will play opposite Harrison Ford. Harrison Ford has signed on to play Branch Rickey in the Jackie Robinson biopic. Ford will star as Branch Rickey, the innovative Major League Baseball executive who is best known for breaking MLB’s color barrier by signing Jackie Robinson to a minor league contract in 1945. Two years later, at the start of the 1947 major league baseball season, Robinson was signed to the Brooklyn Dodgers major league baseball team with the help of Rickey. Rickey was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1967.”
 Tyra Banks has parted ways with John Utendahl, her investment banker beau of three-plus years, prompting her to take an "Eat Pray Love"-esque "spiritual trip" to Bali. "Tyra has gone away with a female friend," relays an insider, "and has been island-hopping, visiting Bali and taking a spiritual retreat." The split comes less than three months after Banks, 38, stepped out with Utendahl, 53, for the opening night of New York's Metropolitan Opera.

 

40 Glocc Accused Of Beating, Strangling Girlfriend

Rapper 40 Glocc was arrested on domestic violence charges, after an alleged altercation with his girlfriend. The rapper was recently arrested in Las Vegas, for allegedly assaulting a woman three different times in one day. 40 Glocc accused his girlfriend of “playing him” and struck her several times in the face head and body. 40 Glocc is also accused of choking the woman several times, to the point that she could not breathe. When 40 Glocc fell asleep, the unidentified woman called 911 and police arrived. According to the police report, the officers noted bruises and swelling around the woman’s face, neck and body area and promptly arrested 40 Glocc. The woman claims that 40 Glocc has been using her for over a year now, in incidents that include assault. In one altercation, the woman claimed she was being beaten, handcuffed and placed in the trunk of a car. The woman said she never went to police, because she was scared 40 Glocc would kill her. 40 Glocc was charged with domestic battery by strangulation and coercion by force.

Eddie to Play Marion Barry
Eddie Murphy is apparently headed to TV -  well, it’s actually HBO. According to The Washington Post, the 80s icon is in the frame to play Marion Barry in a new untitled biopic.

"I took her to dinner when she was in her teens and I sat her down and I gave her this long speech about how much I love you and it doesn't matter and you're my darling and blah, blah, blah and you can tell me anything. And she looked and me and she said, 'I'm not gay.' And I was like, 'OK, whatever.'" "Years later she called me and we were having a conversation about something and she said, 'You know, what if I just said that I'm gay,' and I went, 'And?' I mean I think always I kinda knew." Sara, eager to change the subject, responded, "Don't we have a break coming up?"

ABC is airing a Once Upon a Time mini-marathon on New Year’s Day. Four episodes will air consecutively beginning at 7/6c, though they are not the four most recent installments; the Jiminy Cricket-centric hour is not in the lineup.


Spy Kids star Daryl Sabara is going to guest star on an upcoming episode of the Friday night series. The show is going to tackle the popular fairy tale of “Hansel and Gretel,” which ought to make for an intriguing hour. Hannah Marks, from USA’s Necessary Roughness, will also guest star, playing Sabara’s sister. “Hanson (Sabara) and Gracie (Marks) are homeless teens trying to survive in the streets of Portland, when they unexpectedly get caught up in the creature world’s deadly black market of human organ dealing.”


Lisa Rinna will reprise her role as Billie Reed on Days of Our Lives beginning March 8. Details surrounding Billie’s return to Salem are being kept under wraps, but she was last seen (portrayed by Julie Pinson) in 2008 when she relocated to London.


Hot In Cleveland is staging a Mary Tyler Moore reunion. Ed Asner will appear opposite his former co-star Betty White in an episode of the TV Land hit slated to air next summer.


Jennifer Beals is Castle-bound. The Chicago Code/L Word alumna has landed a two-episode guest spot on the ABC drama, playing Sophia, a “smart, commanding, and sexy” CIA agent helping Castle and Beckett search for a fellow operative who has gone rogue.


Teen Wolf‘s Tyler Posey and pop star Demi Lovato will co-host MTV’s annual New Year’s Eve special.


Diane Farr can check another CBS procedural off her to-do list. The Numb3rs vet, who guest starred on CSI: Miami in October, will appear in an upcoming Season 4 episode of The Mentalist. Farr will play Amy Barron, a Type-A, business-minded owner of a small winery in North California. Joining the actress in the outing are Bonnie Somerville (Cashmere Mafia, NYPD Blue) as Amy’s friend/ business partner, who is accused of murder, and Kathryn Joosten (Desperate Housewives) as the murder victim’s neighbor. True Blood‘s James Frain rounds out the crowded guest cast. The episode is slated to air during February sweeps.
