Shakira Expecting First Child
The singer, 35, confirmed the news in a post on her website Wednesday, explaining that she needs to cancel a work commitment as a result. “As some of you may know, [boyfriend] Gerard [Piqué] and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby! At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days,” she writes. “This means I will not be able to be a part of the iHeartRadio Music Festival … I’d like to thank Clear Channel and my fans for their constant love and understanding. Big kiss!” Shakira and Piqué, 25, central defender for FC Barcelona, confirmed their relationship in March 2011. This will be the first child for both. On Tuesday, NBC announced that she will temporarily replace Christina Aguilera as a judge on season four of The Voice.Swedish, Danish magazines publish topless Kate photos
A Swedish celebrity gossip magazine published topless photographs of the wife of Britain's Prince William, the former Kate Middleton, on Wednesday, and a Danish sister journal is to follow suit on Thursday. The pictures were published despite a decision by a French court on Tuesday to ban gossip magazine Closer from further publishing the photographs and ordering it to hand the pictures over to the royal couple. The injunction granted to the Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge, as the couple are formally known, also prevents Closer from selling the pictures to other media. But Carina Lofkvist said her magazine, "Se och Hor" (See and Hear), had bought the pictures on Friday. The magazine published 11 pictures of the royal couple on holiday, of which four show the duchess topless. "They are very cute pictures of a loving relationship," Lofkvist told Reuters. She said the magazine decided to publish the pictures because they were not in any way obscene and it had in the past published similar pictures of celebrities. The pictures were taken while the couple were on holiday in a chateau in southern France and show the duchess slipping off her bikini top, relaxing on a sun lounger and at one point pulling down the back of her bikini bottoms. Buckingham Palace has called the photo spread a "grotesque" invasion of the couple's privacy.
Clint Eastwood: Republicans 'dumb' for asking him to speak
Think Clint Eastwood's empty-chair speech at the Republican National Convention was ill-advised? You're not alone: Eastwood himself thinks so, too. The actor-director, 82, said in an interview Monday that the GOP was "dumb" for inviting him to deliver his now-famous speech, during which he harangued President Obama at length in absentia. "People loved it or hated it, and that's fine," Eastwood offered. "I figure if somebody's dumb enough to ask me to go to a political convention and say something, they're gonna have to take what they get." Asked if he would deliver the speech if he had the chance to do so again, Eastwood said, "I never look backward. It's done and it's done. I probably would; I wouldn't be afraid of it." Eastwood, whose new baseball drama, "Trouble With the Curve," hits theaters Friday, has been making the media rounds this week. On Tuesday, he appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and offered another dig at the Republicans, despite his endorsement of their current presidential candidate. Suggesting that his core political beliefs aren't necessarily embraced by today's Republican party, Eastwood told DeGeneres, "Libertarian values: That's where Republicans used to be when they were saving money and everything."
'Innocence of Muslims' actress sues YouTube, filmmaker
"Innocence of Muslims" actress Cindy Lee Garcia, who appeared in the amateur film that triggered deadly riots across Africa and the Middle East, has filed a lawsuit against YouTube and the film's producer, claiming emotional distress, invasion of privacy, false light, fraud and slander, among other charges. After the "Innocence of Muslims" trailer garnered millions of hits on YouTube, Garcia claims she lost her job, received death threats and is no longer trusted to babysit her grandchildren, according to the complaint she filed to the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Wednesday. Garcia also claimed the film's producer Nakoula Bassely Nakoula (also known as Sam Bacile) told her that the fledgling project was a "historical Arabian Desert adventure film" -- not an anti-Muslim statement -- after she responded to his casting call. The original script was called "Desert Warriors," she alleges, and the Muslim prophet Mohammed was never mentioned on the set. When Garcia asked Google, which owns YouTube, to remove the viral, defamatory video, the YouTube team refused, according to the complaint. In addition to an injunction ordering the permanent removal of "Innocence" from YouTube, Garcia is seeking exemplary and punitive damages for "willful, wanton, malicious, and oppressive" acts.Lohan charged with leaving scene of NYC accident
Lindsay Lohan was arrested in New York early Wednesday on charges that she clipped a pedestrian with her car and did not stop, police said. The 26-year-old actress was arrested at 2:25 a.m. as she left a nightclub at the Dream Hotel on 16th Street in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood, police said. They said no alcohol was involved. Lohan was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and causing injury. She was given a ticket and will have to appear in court at a later date. Police said Lohan was driving a black Porsche slowly through an alley between the Dream Hotel and the Maritime Hotel when the accident occurred. The victim called 911. He was treated at a hospital for a knee injury and released. It was the latest car accident involving Lohan.TV NEWS
President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, will make their first joint appearance on the daytime show "The View" next week. The show says the Democratic president and first lady will tape an episode Monday to air Tuesday. Obama's appearance in July 2010 was the show's most-watched episode ever.
GOP challenger Mitt Romney might not be far behind. Romney said in private remarks to donors made public this week that going on "The View" is high risk because of the sharp-tongued female hosts, only one of whom is a conservative. That conservative, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, said Wednesday that she had reached out to Romney, and the campaign said he'd love to come on the show in October. CBS' "60 Minutes" also announced both candidates will appear Sunday in separate interviews.
Gabby Douglas is vaulting into The Vampire Diaries. The Olympic Gold medalist will guest star during Season 4 of the CW series. No details are available about who Douglas will play on one of her self-proclaimed favorite shows. She will appear in Episode 7, which is slated to air Nov. 29.
ABC will interview the young man whose 2009 allegations of sexual abuse led to the Penn State scandal and the criminal conviction of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. Attorney Michael Boni, who represents the teenager known in court papers as Victim 1, said Wednesday that ABC landed the first interview with his client, who has a book coming out this fall. It’s unclear when the ABC interview would air. Victim 1 and his mother reported Sandusky to the boy’s high school and the Clinton County child protective agency in November 2009. Their complaint triggered a state investigation that last year resulted in criminal charges against Sandusky and against two university officials accused of failing to report suspected child abuse and of lying to a grand jury. Sandusky was convicted in June of dozens of criminal counts of sexual abuse of 10 boys on and off campus. At age 68, he awaits sentencing, which likely will send him to prison for the rest of his life.
"Big Brother," the long-running CBS reality series, will be back for a 15th season. The series has received an early pickup for a Summer 2013 season. The current season of the series, which premiered in 2000, wraps up with a 90-minute finale Wednesday.
Sonny Corleone is coming to Magic City in Season 2, with the addition of veteran actor James Caan. The Godfather star has been tapped to recur in Starz’s 1959-era mafia drama as Sy Berman, the dangerous head of the Chicago mob and Ben Diamond’s (Danny Huston) boss. NYPD Blue/Caprica alum Esai Morales will also join the series’ sophomore run (slated to bow in 2013) as a former rebel who once fought beside Castro but has now made it his mission to free Cuba.
James Gandolfini is poised to once again explore the criminal element for HBO. The cable network has given a pilot order to an adaptation of the BBC series "Criminal Justice," which former "The Sopranos" actor Gandolfini is set to star in. Gandolfini will also serve as an executive producer on the pilot. Described as "a crime drama set in New York," the pilot is scheduled to film there in the fall.
