Gerad Butler in Rehab
Gerard Butler is being treated for substance abuse at the Betty Ford Center. Butler's problems were triggered by the physical demands of shooting "300" in 2006.  The actor began struggling with pain management, and the problem became exacerbated while filming "Of Men and Mavericks," when Butler was badly hurt on December 18 during a surfing accident. Butler realized he was relying too much on prescription drugs and decided to head off a full-blown addiction by entering Betty Ford 3 weeks ago. Butler also developed issues with cocaine, but the root problem appears to be the injuries and pain management.

Chris Brown Steals Fan's iPhone
Chris Brown faces new potential troubles with the law after allegedly snatching a woman's iPhone as she tried to snap his picture outside a Miami Beach nightclub. "B----, you ain't going to put that on no website," the singer, 22, angrily told the fan as he reached through his Bentley window around 4 a.m. Sunday and took the phone from her hands, according to a police report. No charges have yet been filed as the case remains under investigation. "My prosecutors are currently speaking with witnesses and reviewing all of the materials supplied by Miami Beach Police," says Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle. "Only after these reviews have been completed would any type of action be considered or taken." The Miami Beach police incident report provided by Christal Shanae Spann accuses the R&B star of "robbery by sudden snatching" outside the Cameo nightclub. Brown was sentenced to five years probation after assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna before the 2009 Grammy Awards. The pair have become friendly again and recently collaborated on songs.

Brooke Mueller Charged with Felony Possession
Brooke Mueller has been charged with felony possession of cocaine with intent to distribute stemming from her December 2 arrest in Aspen, Colorado. Brooke has been charged with one count of having MORE than 4 grams of cocaine  ... but prosecutors have covered themselves by filing another count -- possessing LESS than 4 grams, in case there's a problem with the measurement. The amount of coke Brooke allegedly possessed determines the penalty ... if she's convicted.  For more than 4 grams, Brooke could face 6 years in prison.  For less than 4 grams, she'd face 18 months in prison.  But the reality is ... since she would be a first time offender, she'd almost certainly get probation. Brooke is also charged with assaulting a woman earlier that night ... which allegedly resulted in bodily injury.

In a controversial move, National Enquirer has published a photo of Whitney Houston in an open coffin with the headline, "Whitney: The Last Photo!" The picture was reportedly taken during Houston's private wake, held Friday inside Whigham Funeral Home in Newark, N.J. Only close friends and family were invited to the service, and it's unclear who took the photo. The Enquirer is known to pay large sums of money for private photos. According to the Enquirer, Houston is pictured wearing her favorite purple dress, more than $500,000 in jewelry and gold slippers. On the inside liner of the casket, Houston's famous nickname "Nippy" is visible and surrounded by music notes. Reactions on Twitter have been flooding in, with users alleging that the Enquirer "crossed the line" and "disrespected" the late Houston by running such a private photo. It's not the first time the Enquirer has published a picture of a late entertainer in their casket: The tabloid ran a similar photo of Elvis Presley after he died in 1977. Houston passed away on Feb. 11, 2012, in a bathtub at Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., at the age of 48. She was celebrated during a funeral service on Feb. 18 at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark and was laid to rest the following day in a plot next to her father.

Aretha Franklin Denies Rift with Whitney Houston's Mother

Aretha Franklin angrily denies reports that she was barred from attending Whitney Houston's funeral because of comments she made about parenting last Friday on NBC's Today show. The Queen of Soul, 69, did not attend Saturday's funeral, citing leg spasms. But some reports said Houston's mother Cissy told her not to attend, after Franklin said on Today that "parents have to really talk to their children before they leave home." In a statement Wednesday, Franklin said she was speaking generally, not about the Houstons, and that NBC cut a line where she said, "This is no reflection on Cissy or Nippy's upbringing." She then slammed media reports of a rift between her and Cissy. "Extra TV, the New York Post and Newsday (New York) should stop the BS," Franklin said in a statement "Cissy Houston and I have been longtime friends for almost 50 years. I have four invitations and parking passes that were sent to me for the funeral. Extra TV, the New York Post and Newsday (New York) are more interested in sensationalism and negative speculations than the truth." She added: "Cissy does not need ridiculous speculation and neither do I – particularly at this time … Knowing Cissy as well as I do, I know Whitney left home right and properly. I was generalizing and it was a well-intended statement for any young adult coming into the music industry. I was not speaking of anyone specifically."

Heidi Klum & Seal: No Plans to Get Back Together

As Seal turns 49 on Sunday, it seems unlikely that Heidi Klum will be celebrating by his side. although the couple originally hoped to reconcile, a reunion might not be in their future after all. "They had both been wearing their wedding rings and had mutually thought they might be able to work it out," one source says. "But it doesn't look like it's going that way." In fact, less than a month after the couple confirmed they were separating after nearly seven years of marriage, Seal was spotted sans wedding ring earlier this week in Australia – a contrast from his earlier sentiment that he had "no intention of taking [his ring] off anytime soon." Klum has been spotted out without her ring as well.

Supreme Court rejects Phil Spector appeal

The Supreme Court has rejected Phil Spector’s appeal of his conviction for killing actress Lana Clarkson. The court did not comment Tuesday in declining to take up the music producer’s argument that his constitutional rights were violated by the trial judge. Spector attorney Dennis Riordan argued that the prosecution’s use of Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler’s videotaped comments and his picture during prosecution summations was improper. The same arguments were made to state appellate justices, who refused to consider them because of a belated filing. They upheld Spector’s second-degree murder conviction. The California Supreme Court also declined to review the case. Spector is serving 19 years to life in prison.

Sugarland blame act of God, careless fans in Indiana stage collapse -- then release clarifying statement

Sugarland’s response to a negligence suit filed against them following the fatal collapse of a stage at the Indiana State Fair last summer have caused an internet furor today. According to documents obtained by local Indiana news station WRTV, the band (or more accurately, their legal team) placed responsibility for the seven deaths and more than 50 injuries on “gust of wind of unprecedented intensity” and “a true accident, or act of God.” The civil suit claims that the concert’s promoters and the companies responsible for building the stage allowed it become overloaded, failed to take note of the dangerous weather conditions, and then failed to promptly and properly evacuate the venue once the 60 to 70 mph winds became dangerous. The band responded that “they had nothing to with the construction of the venue” or therefore its safety. The statement that has garnered the band the most headlines today, however, is their claim that “some or all of the plaintiffs failed to exercise due care for their own safety” and further that “some or all of the plaintiffs knowingly and voluntarily assumed and/or incurred the risk of injury to themselves.” The band’s manager Gail Gellman attempted to clarify the band’s earlier statement, saying: “Sadly when a tragedy occurs, people want to point fingers and try to sensationalize the disaster. The single most important thing to Sugarland are their fans. Their support and love over the past nine years has been unmatched. For anyone to think otherwise is completely devastating to them.” The main issue at stake is whether Sugarland was asked to delay the show, and whether they subsequently complied or failed to do so.  A state fair official has said in a deposition that the band was approached twice about the fair’s desire to delay the show, and the band wanted to go on. But Sugarland’s tour manager reportedly told investigators that there was no such discussion.

Bobby Brown left Whitney Houston’s funeral at Newark, N.J.’s New Hope Baptist Church shortly after the service began. In a statement put out by his representative, he explained, “My children and I were invited to the funeral of my ex-wife Whitney Houston.  We were seated by security and then subsequently asked to move on three separate occasions. “I fail to understand why security treated my family this way and continue to ask us and no one else to move,” he said.  “Security then prevented me from attempting to see my daughter Bobbi-Kristina. In light of the events, I gave a kiss to the casket of my ex-wife and departed as I refused to create a scene. My children are completely distraught over the events. This was a day to honor Whitney. Chris Tucker Owes IRS $12 Million
Chris Tucker is up to his ears in debt as he owes the IRS $11.5 million in back taxes. One of his Florida homes was about to be taken away from him, but luckily, Chis was able to do negotiate a short sale just before the bank foreclosed on it. He owed $4.4 million on the home, but the bank accepted a $2 million bid, which was a major score for the homebuyer who snatched it up, considering the home was worth about $6 million. And in October, Chris sold his other Florida mansion for $1,050,000, still under the amount the home was worth. But, hey, there's good news! A Friday sequel is back on!

Rihanna and Chris Brown release simultaneous remixes, guest on each others' new tracks

Most people blow out a few candles on their birthdays, but Rihanna, who turns 24 today, seems determined to start a full-on fire. In the wake of Chris Brown’s controversial return to the Grammy stage last week (many people — like Miranda Lambert — were uncomfortable that Brown, who pled guilty to felony assault after a fight with Rihanna the night before the 2009 Grammys, was welcomed back to the show and given two performance slots), the “We Found Love” singer has been playing awfully nice with her ex. Earlier today, Chris Brown tweeted, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBYN” (Rihanna’s real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty), to which she quickly replied “Thanks!” The small exchange was enough to launch a thousand blog posts asking whether Rihanna should be interacting so benevolently with her former beau, whom many feel has not demonstrated adequate or genuine remorse about his past iniquities. But a moment ago, Rihanna took the reconciliation (and thus the controversy) a step further when she tweeted out a remixed version of Chris Brown’s single “Turn Up The Music” that features her own vocals as well. She wrote, “Turn up the music remix #RihannaNavy #Teambreezy enjoy!!!”

Sony Apologizes After Raising the Price on Whitney Houston Albums

Whitney Houston's albums have had a big resurgence in sales since her passing on Saturday and it has meant a windfall for Sony. An even bigger windfall than would have been expected. In England, the price of two of Houston's albums on iTunes shot up from 25% to 60% after her death. Her Ultimate Collection went from $7.85 to $12.50 while The Greatest Hits jumped from $12.50 to $15.67. The jumps caused a huge outcry on the net over Sony's gouging of the fans during a time of mourning, forcing the company to make an official statement; however, they didn't admit to an intentional scheme. Instead, they simply said. Whitney Houston product was mistakenly mispriced on the U.K. iTunes store on Sunday. When discovered, the mistake was immediately corrected. We apologize for any offense caused. Two executives of Sony talked "off-the-record" to the New York Times, telling them that it was a mistake by an employee in Britain and that the company hadn't ordered the increase. The increase was, indeed, Sony's and not an iTunes move as the company increased the wholesale price for the downloads by £3 ($4.71) which triggered an automatic increase in iTunes' system.

Michael Bay will direct the next 'Transformers'
Michael Bay announced on his website late Monday night that he had signed a two-picture deal with Paramount Pictures that puts him back in the director’s chair for the next Transformers movie. But producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto, and Ian Bryce; and executive producers Steven Spielberg, Bay, Brian Goldner, and Mark Vahradian are coming back for the fourth film. The film is already set to inundate theaters on June 27, 2014.
This weekend, First Lady Michelle Obama, known for mixing low price off-the-rack items with designer duds, was spotted wearing a $39.99 Jason Wu for Target dress while doing a press event in Florida. The designer's line for Target went on sale Feb. 5 and flew off the shelves almost as soon as it went on sale, but it looks like the first lady was able to snatch up the Sleeveless Chiffon Dress in Navy Floral with Gold Belt. Obama, of course, added her own sense of style to the ensemble swapping the gold belt for a red one and cinching it over a blue cardigan. Obama has a history with the designer: She put Wu on the map in 2009 when she wore an ivory gown he designed at her husband's inaugural ball.

Rapper may regret tweeting about killing people

It can be difficult to discern if a rapper's tales of crime are confessions or boasts. In the case of Brooklyn rapper Ronald "Ra Diggs" Herron, his tweets about how he "beat a body" and claims of leading a "murder team" turned out to be bone-chillingly real, according to prosecutors. Herron, already imprisoned on federal drug charges, was recently indicted on three murder charges, with evidence coming from his Twitter and YouTube accounts. Herron allegedly took part in three killings from 2001-09, including one charge he beat when two witnesses refused to testify.

1195ewcover_300.jpg  Singer Whitney Houston's family has decided against a public memorial for her at a New Jersey sports arena, and will hold an invitation-only service at the church where she first sang publicly, and where her mother, singer Cissy Houston, still attends services. On Monday, it was reported that the Houston family was considering a wake and funeral at Newark's Prudential Center, home of the New Jersey Devils and temporarily of the New Jersey Nets. That facility can seat up to 20,000. But Carolyn Whigham, owner of the Whigham Funeral Home in Newark, told the press that there will be no wake, and instead a private funeral at noon Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, where Houston first publicly showcased her powerful voice. The church seats about 2,000, but those without invitations will not be admitted. Whigham also said the family had completed arrangements and that no details would be released. There will be no public viewing of any kind.

Gabler, who worked on the original film, said the feel-good movie about four middle-class African-American women dealing with love and loss in the suburbs was a ground-breaker. Although Houston's co-stars have not yet commented on their intentions to continue plans with the sequel, they did express their extreme sadness upon hearing the news of their friend and former co-star's death.

Whitney Houston's Medical Records Sought by Investigators

Following the death of Whitney Houston, investigators are looking into the singer's medical history. "Prescription medication was recovered from the scene" of where Houston, 48, was found unresponsive in her Beverly Hilton hotel room, L.A. Coroner Asst. Chief Ed Winter says, "We are trying to locate some of her doctors to get all possible medical records." Winter declined to comment on what drugs were found in Houston's room, but he does say investigating the records "is normal procedure for us." Asked if the case appears to be similar to the Dr. Conrad Murray investigation, he says, "It doesn't appear so." Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Michael Jackson's death.

Miranda Lambert: Chris Brown at the Grammys 'not cool'
Country star Miranda Lambert was far from impressed with Chris Brown's performances at Sunday's Grammy Awards, because she feels the R&B singer had no place at the ceremony -- on the third anniversary of his assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna. In a series of Twitter posts on Monday, Lambert wrote, "Chris Brown twice? I don't get it. He beat on a girl... Not cool that we act like that didn't happen." Lambert, whose parents ran a shelter for abused women when she was growing up, even suggested Brown listen to her country song about a woman preparing to murder her abusive husband upon his release from jail -- to put him "back in his place" after his night at the Grammys. She later appeared to backtrack on her outrage, posting, "As for my tweets 'it's just one clowns opinion'. I love music and that's what it's all about." The singer made a big return to the prestigious awards show on Sunday as he took to the stage to sing his new track "Turn Up the Music" and take part in a dance tribute to late "Soul Train" creator Don Cornelius. He also won the night's Best R&B Album prize.

Whitney Houston estate seeing post-mortem boost
Whitney Houston‘s career is getting a post-mortem boost, but it isn’t likely to be as big as the one that enriched the King of Pop’s estate after his death. Like the late Michael Jackson, Houston was in the midst of an attempted career revival. She was found dead at age 48 on Saturday in her Los Angeles hotel room on the eve of the Grammys, a stage she once ruled. It could be weeks before the coroner’s office completes toxicology tests that could establish the cause of death. In an outpouring of grief — and a desire to remember her soaring voice and upbeat personality — Houston’s fans have propelled her decades-old recordings to the top of sales charts on iTunes and Amazon.com. Twitter recorded more than 2.5 million Tweets about her within two hours of her death. In the day and a half after she died, U.S. sales of Houston’s albums skyrocketed. Weekly sales through Sunday jumped nearly 60 times the previous week’s level to 101,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Radio airplay soared and her best-selling single, “I Will Always Love You,” jumped to 195,000 downloads in the week through Sunday, up from just 3,000 the week prior. Online music service Spotify said Houston’s songs were streamed 2.4 million times between Saturday and Sunday alone. Not unlike Jackson’s posthumous star turn in the movie “This Is It,” Houston will star in a film that is set for release this fall. In addition, dozens of the six-time Grammy-winner’s unreleased recordings may someday be released to a public grieving her loss.

Authorities: Whitney Houston was found underwater in tub
Whitney Houston was underwater and apparently unconscious when she was pulled from a Beverly Hills hotel bathtub, and she had prescription drugs in her room, authorities said. The regal pop star's family made arrangements to fly her body home to New Jersey for a funeral at the end of the week.Authorities said that there were no indications of foul play and no obvious signs of trauma on Houston's body but that it could be weeks before the coroner's office completes toxicology tests to establish the cause of death. The 48-year-old singer had struggled for years with cocaine, marijuana and pills, and her behavior had become erratic. Houston was found underwater Saturday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel by a member of her staff about 3:30 p.m., hours before she was supposed to appear at a pre-Grammy Awards gala, police Lt. Mark Rosen said. She was pulled from the tub by members of her staff, and hotel security was promptly notified, Rosen said. She was pronounced dead about a half-hour later. "As of right now, it's not a criminal investigation," Rosen said, refusing to release further details. "We have concluded our portion of the investigation at the hotel."

Oprah draws fire for asking Nielsen viewers to watch OWN instead of Grammys

Oprah Winfrey took to Twitter last night to ask Nielsen viewers to watch her cable network OWN, drawing criticism from some followers and investigative scrutiny from the ratings measurement company. “Every 1 who can please turn to OWN especially if u have a Nielsen box,” she tweeted Sunday evening at the start Oprah’s Next Chapter and the mega-rated Grammy telecast. She later added, “Commercial Grammy people..u can turn to OWN.” That tweets caused a backlash on the social networking site, with readers accusing her of “begging for viewers” and being “desperate.” Oprah followed up with a flurry of defensive replies that were apparently in response to reader criticism: “The word ‘please’ is used as courtesy not a beg … ‘desperate’ not ever a part of my vocab … ‘unethical’ a little harsh don’t u think? Seemed like it made sense to me. Sorry if u’re offended.” networks are not allowed to specifically target Nielsen subscribers. It’s policy prohibits “attempts to single out panel members … to change their viewing habits.” “In accordance with our policies and procedures, Nielsen is reviewing this incident with our clients and we may withhold, breakout and/or make a note in the ratings,” a Nielsen rep said. “We take any violation of our policy seriously and will work with clients to resolve the situation.” Of course, given that 39.9 million people watched the Grammys last night, with CBS crushing rivals, a more effective punishment might be releasing OWN’s ratings instead of holding them back. Oprah Winfrey released this statement: “I removed the tweet at the request of Nielsen. I intended no harm and apologize for the reference.”
