W.Va. country music singer Doc Williams dies

Doc Williams capitalized on his star radio act with tours of the same regions where the powerful airwaves left his country music footprint. Riding the success of his Wheeling-based radio show before the start of World War II, Williams carved a following during tours of Maine, Vermont and Canadian provinces — places where some fans still tap in time to songs from his band, the Border Riders. Williams died Monday at his Wheeling home at age 96.  After forming the Border Riders, Williams started broadcasting a 2:45 p.m. daily show on WWVA in 1937. He and his wife married two years later and they became the Jamboree's headline act that could be heard on AM radio into Canada, where Williams had a strong following. The couple was inducted into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame in 2009.

Zsa Zsa Gabor Rushed to the hospital again

We're trying to keep our hopes up, but things aren't looking good for the legendary Zsa Zsa Gabor. As he always does when she has a health emergency, her faithful husband Prince Frederic von Anhalt alerted the media as Gabor was on her way to the hospital via ambulance. According to the prince, Gabor had "lots of blood coming out of her mouth," which caused him alarm. Her temperature was high, and her lungs, stricken with an infection, were filled with blood and water. Gabor, who will turn 94 years old on Sunday, Feb. 6, has had an extremely difficult 2011 thus far. Her leg was amputated in January due to an infection, which has now returned to the remaining part of her limb. She's also put her mansion, once owned by Elvis Presley, on the market because the sprawling home has become "too much of a headache."

Gabriel Aubry is responding for the first time to Halle Berry's claims that their 2½-year-old daughter Nahla may be unsafe in his care. "While Gabriel is disappointed in Halle’s decision to falsely malign him publicly and for her own purposes, he refuses to be pulled into her dispute over a canceled film production," a rep for the model, 34, said Tuesday in a statement. "Gabriel also refuses to air their issues in the press as he believes this may ultimately harm their daughter," the statement continues. "The fact is that Gabriel is a caring father who shares custody of Nahla." On Monday, Berry’s rep issued a statement, stating that the Oscar winner, 44, had dropped out of her New Year's Eve film to focus on “custody issues” related to Nahla.

LA football stadium officially named, does not bode well for potential mascots
Bringing the NFL to Los Angeles has been on people's minds for a while now, and the proposed football stadium for the city has been officially named. AEG, the company behind the famed Staples Center (home of the Lakers) announced that Farmers Insurance has signed a 30-year deal for naming rights of the 1.7 million dollar square foot stadium. The new stadium will house sporting and entertainment events in downtown LA.  AEG President Timothy J. Leiweke says of the deal, "This groundbreaking agreement with Farmers not only makes this the largest long-term commitment in naming rights history, it also signals the most significant step forward in creating the football stadium and event center and bringing an NFL team back to Los Angeles." We're all for an LA football team, so we should really be thanking Farmers for putting up the money and getting us one step closer to the goal.

Gervais Globes Differ
Ricky Gervais says that despite the acrimony over his job hosting the Golden Globes, he was asked to consider returning next year. In a diary of his experience hosting the Globes for Heat magazine, Gervais says that organizers asked him to "consider a third year." Gervais said he was inclined to turn it down. "I don't think I should," he wrote. "I don't know what I could do better. I certainly couldn't get more press for them, that's for sure." The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which presents the Globes, denied that such an offer was made to Gervais. "There is no truth to this rumor," association president Philip Berk said in a statement Tuesday. "We have not asked him to come back. Nice try, Ricky."

The long-running saga of the miniseries "The Kennedys" has finally reached a conclusion. The eight-hour miniseries, which the History Channel commissioned but then decided not to air, has found a home after several weeks of rumors that it was headed to this cable channel or that, none of which panned out. It will premiere April 3 on ReelzChannel. It's the first original scripted series for ReelzChannel, which airs movies and movie-related programming, along with a few syndicated series (including "NewsRadio" and "Brothers & Sisters"). Reelz is an independently owned channel available in about 60 million homes and has previously had a pretty low profile. The acquisition of "The Kennedys" will "drive ratings and put a spotlight on this network that has never been on it before," ReelzChannel CEO Stan Hubbard says. "We're going to do a full-blown marketing campaign."

The CW Pilot Pickups
The CW has announced four pilot pickups, including one from the "O.C."/"GG" dream team of Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. Their show is called "Hart of Dixie" and is about a "young New York City doctor after she inherits a medical practice in a small Southern town inhabited by an eclectic and eccentric group of characters." So basically it's like "Gossip Girl" meets "Everwood". Also picked up by the network was the much-talked about zombie series "Awakening," which centers on "two sisters who come of age and face off against one another amidst the beginning of a zombie uprising." "Heavenly" is about a young attorney who teams with a former angel to help clients at a legal aid clinic. Spoiler Alert! The angel half of the dynamic legal duo has never experienced human emotions so we're guessing a human/angel angsty love affair will be happening. Rounding out the group is "Life" producer Laurie Arent's "Cooper and Stone," which follows "two smart young female detectives on Chicago's North Side [who] are best friends, [and] equally adept at discussing fashion, music, pop culture as they are solving homicides."

Survivor Maybe Headed Back to Jail
Federal prosecutors recommended Monday that Richard Hatch, the very first "Survivor" winner, should be sent back to jail for two years, for violating conditions of his parole. Hatch has already served 3 years behind bars after being convicted for failing to pay taxes on the $1 million prize he won on the show. Hatch has failed to file amended tax returns for 2000 and 2001 which were a condition of his release. Hatch, who owes about $1.7 million in back taxes, has said he didn't refile his taxes because he has an appeal pending with the U.S. Tax Court. Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Reich said Hatch has a pattern of lying, defying court orders and failing to accept responsibility for his conduct.
