'Buckwild' star, two others found dead in W.Va.
A cast member of the MTV reality show "Buckwild" was found dead Monday in a sport utility vehicle in a ditch along with his uncle and a third, unidentified person, authorities said. Kanawha County Sheriff's Department Cpl. B.D. Humphreys said the bodies of castmember Shain Gandee, 21, his uncle David Gandee, 48, and the third person were found Monday in a remote area near Sissonville. Authorities had been searching for the men since early Sunday morning. They were last seen around 3 a.m. Sunday at a bar in Sissonville, and they told people they were going driving off-road. Humphreys said state police were getting ready to send out an aviation unit to search for the men when authorities received a call Monday morning that a vehicle was found wrecked in a muddy area a few miles from Gandee's home in Sissonville, about 15 miles outside of Charleston. Authorities found the 1984 Ford Bronco that belonged to the Gandee family in a ditch with all three men inside. Humphreys did not provide details on the condition of the vehicle or the bodies. He said no foul play was suspected. The terrain in the Thaxton Hollow area was "very muddy, very rough," Humphreys said, adding that authorities had to use all-terrain vehicles to get to the site. Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper said the news was devastating for the small community near Charleston. "It's a very sad day for the Sissonville area and for these families," he said. "This is a small community, and most of us know directly members of these families. We're keeping them in our hearts and prayers." Shain, nicknamed "Gandee Candy" by fans, was a breakout star of the show that followed the antics of a group of young friends enjoying a wild country lifestyle. It was filmed last year, mostly around Sissonville and Charleston. MTV issued a statement saying it was shocked and saddened to learn of its star's death. "We are waiting for more information but at this time, our main concern is for the Gandee family and their friends," the network said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Shain had a magnetic personality, with a passion for life that touched everyone he met, and we will miss him dearly."
Doctor for French 'Survivor' kills self after contestant dies
A doctor working for France's version of the television reality show "Survivor" committed suicide on Monday, leaving a note saying he had been unfairly criticized over the death of a contestant, the program's broadcaster said. Thierry Costa, 38, killed himself in Cambodia, the setting of the show "Koh-Lanta," which was halted last week following the heart attack and death of contestant Gerald Babin, said the TF1 television channel. Costa's suicide note, published in full on TV1's website, said the media had made "unfair accusations and assumptions" about his treatment of Babin. Some media outlets had carried reports criticizing the amount of time it took for anyone to treat Babin, 25, after his collapse. "In the past few days my name has been tarnished in the media ... I am certain that I treated Gerald in a respectable manner, as a patient and not as a contestant," Costa wrote in his note which was also shown on television news reports. TF1 cited a statement from the show's producers Adventure Line Productions (ALP), that Costa's suicide should "encourage those who accuse and comment indiscriminately to exercise responsibility." Costa, who specialized in emergency medicine, had spent four seasons on France's longest-running reality show in which candidates must survive on an uninhabited island and compete in a series of challenges. Prosecutors in the Paris suburb of Creteil launched a preliminary investigation into Babin's death last week.
Donald Trump drops lawsuit against Bill Maher
Donald Trump is apparently not as offended at being called the son of an ape as he was a couple of months ago. "Celebrity Apprentice" host Trump has withdrawn his lawsuit against "Real Time" funnyman Bill Maher, which he filed after Maher jokingly insinuated that Trump could be the spawn of sex between a human and an orangutan. But Maher might not be entirely off the hook. Trump's attorney, Michael Cohen, said that the suit will be refiled in the future. "The lawsuit was temporarily withdrawn to be amended and refiled at a later date," Cohen said in the statement. He did not elaborate on why the suit was withdrawn, or when the suit will be refiled. Maher made the wisecrack on "The Tonight Show," in response to Trump's continued questioning of President Barack Obama's citizenship, telling host Jay Leno that he would donate to $5 million to charity if Trump could prove he wasn't the product of human-ape sex. Trump promptly furnished a copy of his birth certificate to Yahoo News, and filed suit in early February after Maher failed to come through with the $5 million donation. "He promised me $5 million for charity if I provided certain information," Trump told "Fox & Friends" before filing the suit. "Well, I provided the information. He didn't pay. So today I sue Bill Maher for $5 million for charity." When it was suggested that comedian Maher might have been, well, joking, Trump brushed the possibility aside. "I don't think he was joking. He said it with venom. That was venom. That wasn't a joke. In fact, he was nervous when he said it; it was a pathetic delivery. But he said, 'I will give,' and said, 'I will accept.'"TV NEWS
History's miniseries "The Bible" ended with a bang on Easter Sunday -- but it was no match for the zombies of AMC's "The Walking Dead," which also aired its season finale Sunday. The "Bible" finale drew 11.7 million total viewers -- an impressive number, but "The Walking Dead" amassed 12.4 million total viewers. The good news for "The Bible," which was executive produced by "Survivor" boss Mark Burnett and his wife, "Touched by an Angel" star Roma Downey, still drew pretty impressive numbers. Sunday night's finale viewership was off slightly from its March 3 premiere, which drew a jaw-dropping 13.1 million total viewers. However, it was up 14 percent in total viewers from last week's episode.
TBS renewed Conan O’Brien‘s late-night hit, Conan, through November 2015 — which, coincidentally, marks the talk show’s fifth anniversary.
HBO’s Game of Thrones kicked off Season 3 on Sunday night with a record audience of 4.4 million total viewers, rising 13 percent from the epic drama’s sophomore opener and up 4 percent from the previous finale.
America’s Most Wanted can’t seem to outrun cancellation. The crime-fighting series — which endured its first axing at the hands of Fox in 2011 — has not been renewed for a 26th season by Lifetime, the cabler it currently calls home
