Legendary country star George Jones is dead at 81

Country music icon George Jones — a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and a legend of the Grand Old Opry — died Friday in Nashville, where he had been hospitalized for more than a week with fever and irregular blood pressure. He was 81. His recording career spanned more than 50 years, kick-started with his 1959 hit, “White Lightning.” He charted more than 160 singles, a record in pop-music history that still stands. Over the decades, Jones worked with Mercury Records, United Artists, Epic Records, and MCA, as well as producers and songwriters including Billy Sherrill and Bobby Braddock, who were often behind Jones’ series of duets with his then-wife Tammy Wynette — “Golden Ring,” “Near You,” and “We’re Gonna Hold On.” Jones and Wynette’s tumultuous professional and personal relationship became a defining dynamic in country music, and his personal struggles with drugs and alcohol were also well documented; he later credited second wife Nancy Jones with helping him to reach and maintain his sobriety for the last three decades of his life.BJones’ final Top 20 country hit came in 1998, with “You Don’t Seem To Miss Me,” featuring Patty Loveless, followed 10 years later by a fêting at the Kennedy Center Honors. Jones announced his farewell tour in 2012, which was to conclude in November of this year with a sold-out show featuring Alan Jackson, Randy Travis, and Garth Brooks, among several others.

NJordan invited another 1,500 to join them for the reception at the Bears Club, a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course community in Jupiter, Fla., where Jordan recently built a 38,000-square-foot home.  "They've been planning for months and months," says a source of the nuptials. "He wanted to give Yvette everything she's ever wanted." Jordan, now the owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, proposed over the Christmas holidays in 2011. They applied for their wedding license in March at the Palm Beach County courthouse.  On Friday afternoon, they were spotted attending their rehearsal at the church.  Prieto, 35, met Jordan at a Miami nightclub in 2008.  This is the second marriage for the Chicago Bulls legend. Lauryn Hill to Release New Album

Lauryn Hill may be in a boatload of legal troubles, but that isn't stopping her from finally making new music -- and it's time for the world to rejoice. Hill posted a statement to her official Tumblr account, announcing that she's back in the studio for the first time since 1998's iconic "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill." The singer's only album since "Miseducation" has been 2002's "MTV Unplugged No. 2.0," recorded live at the MTV Studios in Times Square the previous year. This will mark her first studio material in 15 years, and fans will surely be anxious to lay down a welcome mat for the former Fugees singer, who has steadily grown more eccentric over the past decade. Hill revealed on Tumblr that she is launching a new record label in conjunction with Sony Worldwide Entertainment as an effort to pay the $504,000 she owes immediately in taxes. Here's an excerpt of her post: I’ve remained silent, after an extensive healing process. This has been a 10+ year battle, for a long time played out behind closed doors, but now in front of the public eye. This is an old conflict between art and commerce… free minds, and minds that are perhaps overly tethered to structure. This is about inequity, and the resulting disenfranchisement caused by it. I’ve been fighting for existential and economic freedom, which means the freedom to create and live without someone threatening, controlling, and/or manipulating the art and the artist, by tying the purse strings.  It took years for me to get out of the ‘parasitic’ dynamic of my youth, and into a deal that better reflects my true contribution as an artist, and (purportedly) gives me the control necessary to create a paradigm suitable for my needs. I have been working towards this for a long time, not just because of my current legal situation, but because I am an artist, I love to create, and I need the proper platform to do so.

TV NEWS

NBC will air a special one-hour The Office retrospective on Thursday, May 16, directly before the sitcom concludes its nine-season run with its one-hour series finale.

NBC is starting with the easy decisions. The network just renewed five drama series: Parenthood, Revolution, Grimm, Law & Order: SVU and Chicago Fire. All the shows — including Parenthood — received 22-episode orders for next season.

Though Thursday night’s preview was less than impressive, The Vampire Diaries spinoff dubbed The Originals was ordered to series by the CW. The network today also picked up a second season of Beauty and the Beast and a third year of Hart of Dixie. The CW already picked up Arrow, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural for next season. No word yet on the futures of Nikita and The Carrie Diaries, however.

Former Saturday Night Live cast member Kristen Wiig is returning to her old stomping grounds to make her debut as host of the show on May 11, NBC has announced. Rounding out season 38 of the legendary sketch show will be Ben Affleck, who will make his fifth appearance on SNL‘s May 18 finale. NBC has also confirmed the widespread rumor that Kanye West will make his fifth appearance as the show’s musical guest on the May 18 episode, though it remains unclear whether the rapper, who has been in Paris working on his next album, will premiere any new music.

Beginning Tuesday, April 30, NBC will release new installments of its axed dating series Ready for Love on a weekly basis via NBC.com, VOD, iTunes, Amazon, Hulu and more.

Two men down, one half-man out the door? Ashton Kutcher and Jon Cryer have finalized deals to return to Two and a Half Men next season. Meanwhile, co-star Angus T. Jones — who came under fire last fall for biting the hand that has fed him for the past decade — will not be back as a series regular but could return as an occasional guest star.

Lauryn Hill sentence: Postponed so she can pay restitution

Lauryn Hill's sentence in her tax-evasion case has been postponed to May 6 because the singer had not yet paid restitution on the money she owes. She now has a two-week reprieve to gather the funds. The eight-time Grammy winner appeared in a New Jersey federal court Monday to receive her sentence on charges of not paying taxes on $1.8 million in earnings. She had entered a guilty plea to three counts of tax fraud in June 2012, admitting that she intentionally failed to file tax returns in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Hill, 37, claimed that threats to her family were the reason she did not file the returns. Her attorney had said at the time that she would pay restitution by the time of her sentencing, but it turns out she has paid only $50,000 of a total of $554,000. It is in dispute if the former Fugee owes more or less than $1 million, counting civil penalties and interest. If she owes more than $1 million, as the prosecution alleges, she faces a jail sentence of up to 36 months, rather than maximum sentence of 30 months if the figure is less than $1 million. During her Monday court appearance, the singer, who became a solo star with her 1998 album "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," was scolded by the judge for not paying the bill and relying too much on a recording contract. "This is not someone who stands before the court penniless," said U.S. Magistrate Judge Madeline Cox Arleo. "This is a criminal matter. Actions speak louder than words, and there has been no effort here to pay these taxes." Hill appeared in court but said nothing. The sentencing was rescheduled for May 6. Her attorney, Nathan Hochman, said he would seek a sentence of probation sentence for the mother of six and planned to have her sign off on a loan against two properties so she could pay the remainder of the restitution.

Lauryn Hill sued for eviction by New Jersey landlord

This week has been quite eventful for Lauryn Hill. The documents revealed that Hill has been renting the mansion since 2009.

Warner Bros. Pictures has reportedly put its plans to reboot the "National Lampoon's Vacation" franchise on indefinite hold. The story was set to follow the misadventures of the now-adult Rusty Griswold (Ed Helms), who, along with his own family, heads off on a vacation trip to Walley World. Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley penned the script and will direct. The delay is said to be due to creative differences over the film's MPAA rating - some want a PG-13, others an R. All of the talent currently attached to the project remain that way at present.

On the mend? Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is healing Superman-fast after emergency surgery.  Wearing a Superman shirt, the Pain & Gain star Tweeted a photo of himself in his hospital bed after having surgery Monday to repair torn abductor and abdomen muscles suffered in his WWE Champion title fight against winner John Cena.  "Surgery a success! Dr. repaired 3 hernial tears (fun pain). The operation caused Johnson to miss the Pain & Gain premiere in Los Angeles where director Michael Bay issued his well-wishes from the red carpet.

Allen Iverson Wants a New Judge in Divorce Case

Allen Iverson refuses to get screwed over while he goes through a divorce, claiming the judge currently on his case isn’t fair. His camp says the judge does unethical legal favors for campaign contributors and doesn’t want the same results Usher’s wife was forced to endure. Iverson filed a motion last month, asking for the judge to recuse herself from the case, alleging that she’s accepted campaign donations from his estranged wife’s attorney. Besides that, the judge has a particularly shady track record. Incidentally, Usher’s attorney, during that brutally ugly divorce between the singer and Tameka Raymond, is now the rep for Iverson’s ex.  Allen Iverson may have been great on the ball court, but as a father, he straight up sucks. That’s the conclusion an Atlanta judge who signed off on his divorce from Tawanna Iverson, the mother of his five children, came to. In the final divorce decree, the judge goes off on Iverson, saying: “[Iverson] does not know how to manage the children; has little interest in learning to manage the children and has actually, at times, been a hindrance to their spiritual and emotional growth and development. For example, he has refused to attend to an obvious and serious alcohol problem, which has caused him to do inappropriate things in the presence of the children while impaired. He has left the children alone without supervision. He has left his young daughters in a hotel room with men who are unknown to the mother.”  The judge has awarded Tawanna legal and physical custody of the kids. Allen has some visitation rights, but only if he abides by certain conditions. Among them, the former NBA star must NOT drink a drop of alcohol for the next 18 months. And there’s more: until all of his kids become adults [18+], he can’t consume alcohol within 24 hours of the times he has the kids. Iverson’s also been ordered to see a shrink and attend AA meetings for a year.

No Pre Nup No RHOA Wedding

Yes, NeNe and Gregg Leakes are in love again, about to get re-married, but now the relationship is being tested because the reality star made it very clear that she wants a pre-nup. the “very rich” woman is getting a prenuptial agreement because, as she’s indicated several times, she’s got that money and doesn’t want any man taking over her fortune. Besides that, she’s gotten a hefty raise for the new season of “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” Just in case you wanted to know, she’ll be making $1M, not including bonuses. So of course a woman’s got to have her fail-proof plan. “If it doesn’t work out she wants him to walk away only with what he’s bringing into it,” a source close to the family said.“She says she earned what she’s got by herself, and is demanding Gregg sign a prenup or there won’t be a wedding.” In the meantime, the planning continues. Cynthia Bailey will be in the wedding, along with Laura Govan as bridesmaids. NeNe recently announced her bridal party via Twitter: “I love mybridesmaids @CynthiaBailey10 @iheartMarlo @LauraMGovan  @iamjennifer @dianagowins @thablondebomb @LEXISIS1@StylesbyPat @dawnienla.”

Will.i.am admits to copyright breach on Chris Brown collaboration

Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas is embroiled in a copyright dispute after Russian DJ Arty accused the artist of stealing the beat for his Chris Brown collaboration "Let's Go." Earlier this month, Arty took to Twitter to complain that Will.i.am, whose real name is William Adams, had used parts of "Rebound," Arty's song with producer Mat Zo, without permission. Adams, 38, spoke to radio station KIIS-FM about the kerfuffle, admitting that he used "Rebound" as the basis of "Let's Go." "Arty is a dope producer, so I wrote this song to 'Rebound' this last year," Adams said. "I got in touch with Arty and showed it ( to) him, did a different version to it cause I asked him to make it newer 'cause I don't just wanna take your song and rap over it. But in a year's time, time's gone by, (and) we preferred writing over and using the (original) 'Rebound.' "Something happened (with) the clearance," Adams continued. "Hopefully, we resolved the issue." "I'm a fan of Arty. I think he's great and the world needs to know about how talented those guys are," Adams added. "It's sad that's turned into a fiasco."

Sharon Osbourne 'Devastated' By Ozzy Relapse, Denies Divorce Rumors

Sharon Osbourne wasn't happy about husband Ozzy Osbourne's recent drug relapse,
but after decades standing by his side through his struggles and demons, she's not walking away now. At least that's what she said on Tuesday on her syndicated chat show "The Talk." Osbourne told her audience that she didn't know Ozzy was using prescription drugs, but that she caught on to his drinking, which she thought was just occasional. "It's our business. We're dealing with it," she said. "We're not getting divorced." Saying that Ozzy's Facebook post about his 18-month prescription drug and alcohol relapse said it all, Sharon lashed out at the tabloid reporting that has claimed the pair were splitting up, among other things. "Everything that was printed in the tabloids has been...distorted," she said. "There's always a little seed of truth to everything that gets reported, but then it gets very distorted ... He's been in a very dark place. That's true, it's very true ... everybody knows he's been struggling with this his entire life." The nearly two-minute segment ended with her saying they weren't splitting, but adding, "However, am I happy? No. Am I upset? Yes, I am. I'm devastated right now. It's a disease that not only hurts the person that has the disease but it hurts the family, it hurts people who love you. We're dealing with it, we've dealt with worse and we will deal with it and this too shall pass." Her fortitude earned applause from her co-panelists and the audience, but never the victim, Osbourne ended her segment with one of her legendary warnings. "Otherwise," she said, "my husband will be taken to hospital to get my foot removed from his arse." Ozzy is slated to kick off the Australian tour in support of his first album with Black Sabbath in 35 years, 13, on Thursday night in Brisbane.

3 Doors Down Bassist Todd Harrell Charged In Fatal Crash

Bassist Robert Todd Harrell of the rock band 3 Doors Down has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication after an interstate crash claimed the life of another motorist in the Nashville area, police said. The 41-year-old musician remained jailed early Sunday in connection with the fatal accident late Friday night on Interstate 40 that left 47-year-old Paul Howard Shoulders Jr. dead, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said. A police statement said a preliminary investigation showed that Harrell was driving west at a high rate of speed in the Nashville suburb of Hermitage when his car clipped a pickup truck driven by Shoulders. Police said the pickup then went out of control, struck a guardrail, went down an embankment and overturned. Shoulders was ejected. Authorities said Harrell’s car hit a retaining wall and stopped about a quarter mile away. Police said Harrell showed signs of impairment when he underwent field sobriety tasks, adding in their statement that “he acknowledged consuming hard cider and taking prescription Lortab” and Xanax. Shoulders, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at a Nashville hospital, authorities added. The police statement said Harrell, of Mt. Juliet, also was charged with bringing controlled substances into the jail. Authorities said sheriff’s deputies had discovered a plastic bag concealed in his sock that contained eight Xanax pills, 24 Oxycodone pills and four Oxymorphone pills during a search at the booking room. Early Sunday, a jail official contacted by The Associated Press said Harrell remained in custody in lieu of $100,000 bond. The official, who declined to be identified by name, said Harrell was not available and jail records didn’t indicate whether he had an attorney. The official said Harrell faces a court appearance Thursday morning. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Howard Shoulders, Jr. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time,” said a statement released on the 3 Doors Down website. The band, which formed in Mississippi in the ‘90s and touts a straight-up rock ‘n’ roll sound with such hits as “Away From The Sun” and “Kryptonite,” did not elaborate on the statement.

Reese Witherspoon Arrested For Disorderly Conduct After Traffic Stop

Actress Reese Witherspoon was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge after a state trooper said she wouldn’t stay in the car while her husband was given a field sobriety test in Atlanta.BThe trooper noticed the car driven by her husband wasn’t staying in its lane early Friday morning, so a traffic stop was initiated. Her husband, James Toth, had droopy eyelids and watery, bloodshot eyes, and his breath smelled strongly of alcohol, according to the report. Toth told the trooper he’d had a drink, which Witherspoon said was consumed at a restaurant two hours before the traffic stop, the trooper writes. Before the field sobriety test began, Witherspoon got out of the car, was told to get back in and obeyed, the report said. After she got out a second time, the trooper said he warned her that she would be arrested if she left the car again. As the test continued, “Mrs. Witherspoon began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe that I was a real police officer. I told Mrs. Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be quiet,” Trooper First Class J. Pyland writes. Toth was then placed under arrest. He was charged with driving under the influence and failure to maintain the lane. At that point, the report says, Witherspoon got out and asked the trooper what was going on. After being told to return to the car, she “stated that she was a ‘US Citizen’ and that she was allowed to ‘stand on American ground,’” the report states. The trooper then began to arrest Witherspoon. The report says Witherspoon was resistant at first but was calmed down by her husband. “Do you know my name?” Witherspoon is quoted as asking the trooper. She’s also said: “You’re about to find out who I am” and “You’re about to be on national news,” according to the report. Toth and Witherspoon were then taken to jail.

'Oblivion' reaffirms Tom Cruise's star power with $38.2 million debut

Cruise’s latest, the $120 million sci-fi adventure Oblivion, opened to a solid $38.2 million this weekend. Reese Witherspoon: 'I'm Very Sorry for My Behavior'

Following her arrest with her husband, Jim Toth, early Friday morning after he was pulled over under suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Atlanta, Reese Witherspoon has released the following statement through her rep.  "Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said," the statement says.  It continues: "It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. Kim Kardashian, Kris Humphries finally reach settlement in divorce case

Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian reached an agreement on a divorce settlement that was finalized Friday morning, ensuring the Nets forward will neither miss a practice or playoff game as the team prepares its series against the Bulls.  Humphries, 28, didn’t have to fly to L.A. for the settlement meeting – which Kardashian, 32, attended – and instead was at the Nets’ practice in New Jersey.  He was hoping to take the divorce to court, which was scheduled for May 6, but realized he would’ve had to miss games in order to get his marriage annulled on the premise that it was a sham created for reality TV.Kardashian, now expecting a baby with rapper Kanye West, wanted a regular divorce based on their prenup. Humphries will not receive a dime from the settlement. The pair's court battle started soon after Kardashian pulled the plug on their 72-day union on Oct. 31, 2011.

Terrell Owens Expresses Interest in Joining Chicago Bears For 2013 Season

Last season, the Chicago Bears took a big step in the right direction in the passing game when they acquired Brandon Marshall from the Miami Dolphins to finally give Jay Cutler a reliable No. 1 wide receiver. Now, it appears another former star wideout would love the opportunity to play alongside Marshall and company for the 2013 season–Terrell Owens.
At this point, it should be no surprise to see Owens lobbying for a job with a team like the Bears considering he hasn’t played in a regular season game since 2010 when he was a member of the Cincinnati Bengals. Chicago could always use another weapon in the passing game, but there’s a reason why the Seattle Seahawks chose to release Owens last summer instead of giving him a shot during the regular season.

Financial Guy Says T.O. is to Blame for Money Loss

Terrell Owens has no one to blame but himself for losing a fortune ... so says his financial guy. Owens has sued Jeff Rubin, Edward Rappaport and Pro Sports Financial, claiming they grossly mismanaged his stash ... opening a bank account without his knowledge and then forging his signature, and leading him to really bad investments, including a failed Alabama casino. Rubin is now firing back ... claiming T.O. was fully aware of everything ... and down with it all.  Rubin thinks Terrell is a cry baby who just can't accept the fact that sometimes investments go South. In a final scold, Rubin snarks ... T.O. was asleep at the wheel by not taking the time to understand what he was getting into and the risks he was taking.
