Jennifer Capriati charged with stalking and punching ex-boyfriend on Valentine's Day
Jennifer Capriati, formerly the No. 1 tennis player in the world, is charged with misdemeanor battery and stalking of her ex-boyfriend, Ivan Brannan. The incident took place on Valentine's Day (Feb. 14), when Capriati allegedly punched Brannan in the chest multiple times after tracking him down at a gym. Brannan called 911 from the men's locker room, and cops sent Capriati on her way. Brannan previously tried to get a restraining order against Capriati, but failed. Police say Brannan ended his relationship with Capriati in February of last year, and has called the police on her no fewer than six times since the breakup. Capriati allegedly blew up 26-year-old Brannan's phone with around 300 text messages in a two-week period leading up to the blowout at the gym. The 36-year-old former tennis pro does not face arrest but is summoned to appear in a Palm Beach, Fla. court to face charges on April 17. Capriati's attorney, Richard Lubin, denies the allegations against his client. "Unfortunately, false accusations against celebrities is an almost daily occurrence in this crazy world we live in," says Lubin. "Jennifer Capriati is innocent of these charges, and we intend to vigorously defend her good name against this nonsense." Meanwhile, police spoke to one of Brannan's co-workers who says Capriati called their place of business more than 50 times and banged on the windows. This is not Capriati's first run-in with the law. She faced charges in 1993 and 1994 for shoplifting and marijuana possession, respectively.
Director Antoine Fuqua Reunites with Denzel Washington for Equalizer
Olympus Has Fallen director Antoine Fuqua is in early talks to direct The Equalizer, which would reunite the Training Day filmmaker with star Denzel Washington. Richard Wenk (16 Blocks) wrote the screenplay based on the hit CBS TV series The Equalizer, which ran for four seasons between 1985 and 1989. The show centered on Robert McCall (Edward Woodward) a former covert operative who lives a life of solitude and devotes himself to helping others in need. The movie will follow that basic premise, with Denzel Washington portraying a modern character who truly despises any form of injustice, devoting his life to helping people from being victimized.
Jimmy Fallon to Replace Jay Leno on Tonight
Not only is NBC planning a new host for The Tonight Show, but a new home, too – though neither will be particularly unfamiliar to viewers of late night. Despite his present high ratings, when the show's long-running host Jay Leno's contract expires in the fall of 2014, he will be succeeded by current Late Night host Jimmy Fallon, 38. Furthermore, once the shift takes place, the program will move back to New York – the original home to the show, starting in 1954, with Steve Allen, and then, Jack Paar, as host, until 1972, when Johnny Carson (who took over in 1962) moved the show west, where it has remained ever since. Carson, it was said, wanted access to Hollywood stars and to enjoy the California lifestyle. Fallon's Late Night is already in New York, at NBC's Studios in Rockefeller Center – 30 Rock. An official announcement will be made at the May upfronts.
